Make a holiday rental, apartment or villa in Manche, Normandy your home away from home

Manche, a region of Normandy in the North of France, is surrounded on three sides by the English Channel, boasting 350km of coastline. However, beside Manche’s maritime excellence, taking a villa in Manche, Normandy allows you the flexibility, freedom and space to enjoy discovering the wealth of hugely important historical sites, especially from WW II, and indulge in the hearty, rustic cuisine and sensational cider of Normandy.

Places to holiday in Manche, Normandy, France

Manche is divided into three areas, the Cotentin Peninsula, Bocage area and the Western Coast. The Cotentin Peninsula, or Cherbourg Peninsula is a fairly remote region, bar the port town of Cherbourg. It did however play a strong role in WW II, and houses the Musee de la Garre et de la Liberation.

A Manche holiday rental in Coutances, Normandy’s capital, will ensure you some of the best scenery in northern France. Coutances is the prettiest town in Normandy, centred around the 11th Century cathedral at the heart of the city.

The western coast is lined with some magnificent beaches, and the jewel in the crown of Manche is the spectacular Mont St Michel, which attracts many thousands of tourists, and for good reason. The architectural marvel at Mont St Michel is surrounded by fantastic beaches, filled with sunbathers, swimmers, people playing tennis and football and many small boats and yachts.

Things to do on holiday in Manche, Normandy, France

Manche is a very natural environment, with agriculture supporting the local economy. Holidaymakers taking accommodation here, from a Manche barn to a rental villa, will undoubtedly be impressed and inspired by the natural way of life. There is nowhere better than Manche to walk or bicycle through the countryside and enjoy the sights, sounds and smells. The marked tracks of the Cotentin and Bessin Marshlands Regional Park are hard to beat for fresh air and relaxing scenery.

Taking a self catering Manche villa is not a good idea for those looking to loose weight! Most dishes are made with the much sought-after butter of Sainte-Mere-Eglise, Cotentin oysters, salt lamb of Mont St Michel or famous Normandy beef, all washed down with some of the regions delicious cider.

Weather in Manche, Normandy, France

Manche has an oceanic climate, which keeps winter days from reaching freezing. Summer temperatures are mild, with daily averages reaching around 15°C, but with precipitation being common on the coast from autumn until March.

La France Profonde with 'sympa' English owners you're unaware are somewhere around but ever helpful if you need local insider tips etc. Of course it's clean, tidy and comfortable (I've never slept so well) but above all for me, allowed thinking through and inspired writing up long put-off writing and other challenges. Recommended for shorter stories or longer oeuvres.

My husband and I stayed in this lovely little house last August. The layout is well thought out with the sunny living area upstairs, and the large bathroom and bedroom on the ground floor. Outside is a private patio area perfect for relaxing with an evening drink. We were very comfortable and easily felt at home. The location was perfect for us; an easy bike ride to the local market, the supermarket, bakeries and restaurants at the beach , though it is a beautiful walk to the beach too. I tried sand yachting which was well worth the €22 for the lesson. Its a short drive to the local golf club, shops, restaurants and fun beach bars all around Agon Coutainville which is a busy little town in the summer. We would happily recommend this house to friends, knowing that they would enjoy the house, the tranquility and the surrounding beautiful countryside.

So glad we chose this pretty little house in an excellent location in St Vaast. A short walk to the boulangerie and the picturesque harbour full of boats and wonderful to stroll to a cafe or restaurant or do the complete circuit when the pedestrian bridge was down. The weather was good and we enjoyed the bussle of the town compared to Barfleur which seemed quiet out of season.Ile Tatihou was very interesting as were the berceuses d'huitres - oyster beds which are visible at low tide. The little house is charming with a good sized living room kitchen with all that is necessary for a comfortable stay. The stairs are windy and lead up to a good sized bedroom and shower room both of which were clean and pleasant. The lavatory which is downstairs off the living area was quite small but was clean and perfectly ok for the week. We missed having a garden to have a BBQ in but we didn't mind in October. The owners were very kind and kept in touch to make sure everything was in order. A great cottage and very good value.
