A great place to stay. The owners were charming and helpful and the gite was probably the nicest we have stayed in. The garden is perfect for good weather and the house clean, modern well equipped and very comfortable. A perfect rural location with good walks locally and easy access to places such as Besancon, Ornans and Salin. Very much recommended.

A relaxing base to explore Jura and Lake Geneva

The property is a modern 2nd floor loft conversion of a house with Mme Lacroix and her family on the floor below (she also lets out the ground floor - see 612434a). It is well equipped and gave us a comfortable base in a central village location with essential facilities within easy reach. The local ATAC supermarket is only about 100m away and stocks a very wide range of goods within a medium sized building, plus bakery in the foyer and 24hr petrol. The two village restaurants are only a stone's throw from ATAC and there is an independent bakery almost opposite the house with other shops only 2 mins walk away. A wider range of shops and eating places is available in Les Rousses, about 5 mins drive away. The village is set up for walking in summer and skiing in winter, or like us you can simply admire the mountains and lakes and use it as a base to explore the area. We brought our car and drove to Geneva (1hr), Montreux (1.5hr) and Lyon via Geneva (2.5hrs) but the border village of La Cure, also 5 mins drive away, has a regular train service to the large Swiss town of Nyon from where you can access all those places and more by train plus explore Lake Geneva by boat. A few practical points: Mme Lacroix is a friendly and efficient landlady who speaks quite good English but is more comfortable in French and as this area is not typical British visitor territory it would be easier if at least 1 of you knows some French. Mme L likes outdoor shoes left in the porch so you may want slippers although she can supply them if desired. Cooking is via bottled gas to 3 burners and a hot plate, plus there is a microwave and a microwave-sized electric grill/oven, and a dishwasher. TV and wifi is via satellite and the TV channels are in French, German and Spanish. There is no DVD player but we took one with us. The bedroom is behind a door (we mistook a curtain for a screen in one of the pictures) and has a large full height built in wardrobe. As some of the locals leave very early in the morning and drive past to get to work in Switzerland, Mme L advised us to keep the bedroom window shut at night, so in warm weather you might want a light duvet or a fan. Some locals in fact push highway code boundaries, even on twisty and slow roads, especially motorbikers on the Swiss N90 between Nyon and St Cergue. We arrived via Poligny and Morez, but returned via Pontarlier and Dole. We do strongly recommend this property and hope you enjoy it as we did.
