Make a holiday rental home or cottage in Malaucene, France your home away from home

Dating back to the 10th Century, Malaucene could be regarded as a typical village in Provence. The picturesque village centre and the beautiful surrounding countryside are the main draw for visitors, and these are complimented by the presence of a traditional weekly food market, and some excellent wineries on the outskirts of the village. Accommodation in the area includes traditional townhouses in the village centre and luxury villas and cottages on the outskirts of Malaucene.

Things to do in Malaucene, France

A walk around the centre of the village is a great place to start your holiday, with buildings of Gallic, Roman and Medieval influences all waiting to be discovered. These include ancient fountains, wash houses and regular buildings – some of which remain as private residences, others of which are now home to cafes, bars and restaurants. Arguably the most important building in the village is the 1309 Church of St. Michel and St. Pierre, which blends Romanesque and Gothic styles and is open for public viewing all year round.

The Haut-Valcluese region is renowned for its excellent countryside, and Malaucene is the starting point for several walking and hiking trails that lead to Mont Vernoux. The best of these leads up to the top of Calvere, and rewards those who make the effort with excellent views of the village and surrounding area. A number of other leisure options can also be enjoyed out in the countryside, including horse riding, climbing, fishing and paragliding.

The Wednesday morning market is a particularly popular local event, and the number one place to pick up locally produced food and wine. Meats, cheeses, olives and salami are regarded as the local specialities, and can be picked up at bargain prices. Many stalls also sell non-edible items, such as clothes, artwork and pottery, allowing you to pick up some authentic locally-produced gifts to take back home with you.

Wonderful house

5 of 5
Great house in a lovely village. Everything was literally 5 minutes walk yet the house was in a very quiet area. The house itself is lovely, well furnished and stocked with everything needed. Sylvie was lovely and despite our lack of French...was very helpful. Would highly recommend this house and the village of Malaucène.

A really relaxing holiday in comfortable accommodation.

5 of 5
We were very happy with this villa. The owner Annie Couston is really nice and very helpful. Whilst her English is better than my French she prefers to communicate beforehand by text / email however when we arrived she had a good English / French translation app. to hand. The accommodation is well equipped, clean and comfortable. There is a nice restaurant close to the villa which has a good menu and very helpful staff. Supermarkets are in nearby Vaison La Romain. Just a couple of minor points - the pool is deeper than it looks and as it hasn't got an access ladder isn't suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Towels aren't provided and there is a 50 euro cleaning charge at the end of your stay. Whilst the weather could have been kinder we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Arthur & Michele Williams, Trowbridge, Wiltshire.
