  • A beautiful little gite that is larger than it appears. Great features in a tranquil location

This gite has been renovated to a great standard. It is located in a very small rural hamlet, but is about 5 mins form a larger village with butchers and bakers. 10 mins from another with a supermarket and market plus a choice of bakers etc. 30 mins away is a small city with an historic old town and a wide range of shops. The area is the marais poitvins. It was a salt marsh and was drained hundreds of years ago leaving a massive network of fresh water canals. There are various opportunities to take a tour on the canals and we would recommend this as a relaxing activity. The coast is about an hour away and the endless beaches of the vendee are stunning. We would recommend faute sur mer as a beach destination. Unspoilt and in the middle of a stretch of beaches more than 20 miles long. Our host Mariuz and his lovely dog Kitec were fantastic and laid back. We were welcomed with a bottle of champagne . Mariuz also gave us some home grown veg. He lives just a few doors away so is available if you have any questions and is fluent in French English and polish. However he respects your privacy and his proximity is an asset not a deterrent. Kitec is a calm dog who will greet you several times a day, usually around meal times but is patient and not at all demanding should you choose to feed him the odd scrap. Across the lane is the garden of le chic. It has many fruit trees and we were lucky to be there when they were at the peak of ripeness. Daily portions of plums pears apples direct from tree to mouth. Can't get fresher. We have stayed in many gites in various areas. This definitely ranks level with the very best for value and beauty.

  • Very relaxing holiday at La Maison Rose in the Vendee

Our family enjoyed 14 days of sun and relaxation at this comfortable and well-equipped house in the very quiet hamlet of Le Coudreau. The excellent pool was invaluable in the very hot weather we experienced and our grandson learned to swim without armbands during the holiday. The garden was secure so our dog could roam free and it was not overlooked---nor was the pool. The supermarket at Benet was a few minutes drive and there were plenty of restaurants within striking distance--we found TripAdvisor useful for suggesting restaurants in any town or village visited. The broadband/WiFi was first-class and noticeably quicker in this rural location than in our home in West Surrey. The coast was about 50 minutes drive and the Marais Poitevin countryside with its many rivers and canals was beautiful. All in all an excellent base for a holiday in a very nice part of France.
