Make a holiday rental villa or gite in Lussan, France your home away from home

Lussan is a wonderful village just outside Uzes in the Pyrenean foothills of Languedoc-Roussillon. Surrounded by the monuments of centuries of history, as well as breathtaking Pyrenean scenery, a holiday rental gite in Lussan is a perfect place to escape to, at any time of year.

Things to do in Lussan, France

A Lussan villa makes the perfect escape. The whole region is famed for its rich history, and Lussan accommodation makes an excellent base from which to explore it all, yet experience the true tranquillity and authentic lifestyles which make Languedoc such a wonderful place to take a holiday. Famous sites such as the enormous Roman Pont du Gard, the dramatic amphitheatres of Arles and Nimes, and the amazing castle at Carcassonne are all well within reach of a Lussan gite. One of the best ways to really soak in the history is by renting a canoe and heading up the Gardon River, stopping off for a swim, river beach picnic and paddling far below the famous Pont du Gard; a remarkable experience.

Lussan is set in one of France's best wine making regions, and wine tasting tours are available at almost every turn. Wine lovers will be truly happy in Lussan accommodation, and whether you are an interested amateur or a real connoisseur, there are tours and tasting experiences to suit all. Or, of course, you can simply find your favourite by talking to the expert waiters in any one of the regions excellent restaurants.

The Cevennes Mountains are also right on the doorstep of a self catering Lussan holiday home. There are a huge range of spectacular walking, hiking and mountain biking trails leading up into the mountains, but if you would prefer to take it easy, there is a wonderful steam train that chugs up into the mountains, giving you wonderful views without having to strap on your walking boots!

Very Enjoyable

4 of 5
First of all a big thank you to Madame Giraud for making my wife and I so welcome. For those that don't know the area, Lussan is a small old stone built village that is perched by itself some 50M above the surrounding country side on a rock outcrop. The most accessible town would be Uzes some 20 Minutes drive by car.. so having transport is essential. We picked a car up from Nimes Airport . The views from the village are lovely , as are the sunrises and sunsets and its probably reasonable to walk the circumference of the ramparts in 15 Mins ( if you didn't stop to admire the country side) . The village when we were there in early Sept was very quiet . Although it is a functioning village with a small primary school you'll have to get in the car to do any shopping. If you're used to living in the countryside, as I do, its not a problem , that's just a part of the experience . However if you live in a town or any large conurbation you may take a while to adjust .. but please try it ;). The Property is a part of a larger structure and forms the top floor. The ground floor is only partially used and didn't cause us any problems at all . The building to the side is occupied but again didn't cause any problems at all . To all intents you might as well be on your own, the stone walls are very thick. The usual facilities are good, the property is clean and tidy. One point in terms of services is that the description mentions that the property has Wifi within short range at the post office. The issue though is that with the stone walls being so thick its not actually available within the confines of the property. If you're desperate the 3g / 4g coverage is acceptable for downloading films . Actually we didn't miss it. As this was our first two week break in 28 years without all or some of our numerous children , my wife and I spent more time talking to each other and reading books which turned out to be one of the best things about the property. In terms of location , Uzes which is a fine old country town is a good base for exploring Gard and further afield. We found no problem in discovering the local area and visiting the local villages and towns such as Nimes, Orange , Avignon, Aigues Mortes and even further afield to the Gorge to Verdon. I would recommend that you have some French , Madame Giraud has some English so between the two parties things can be well understood. It was a lovely place for a quiet break .

Charming house with amazing views

5 of 5
Christine is a most welcoming host and was extremely attentive to our needs. Everything was beautifully prepared for us, the house is very spacious and the terraces are wonderful as they have fantastic far-reaching views over the Provence countryside. There are many interesting places to visit for day trips such as Avignon and Orange and the local villages and the Ardeches Gorges are extremely picturesque. The pizza van that visits St Christol on a weekly basis is well worth trying and there are also nice restaurants fairly close by. All in all we had a lovely holiday and would love to return to Provence in the future.
