An all-round fascinating family fun holiday - lots to do at the Gite and in the region for all ages

5 of 5
We arrived at Chateau de Lesparda and were immediately able to plunge into our swimming pool and relax in our comfortable pool house. We ate our meals at a large outdoor table by the pool and pool house with lighting; and were able to watch our teenagers playing games in the games room. The games room/barn is amazing and seeped in history - at one time it was the orangery for the Chateau. The Chateau has belonged to some historically renowned French families - who served as secretaries and musketeers to the royal family. 'Good King Henry IV' was born in Pau... Kevin and Nicky Jones were incredibly welcoming and no request was too much for them. The gite was private and yet sociable - an Italian family with teenagers were in residence at the other gite and we had drinks with them one evening. The bedrooms were clean and modernised. There was loads of space to dry our clothes - the washing machine was very efficient. The kitchen and dining room were fully equipped and videos left out for us to watch in the sitting room. Kevin left us out marked-up maps with directions to water parks, caves, shops, Pau, Biarritz, San Sebastián, Lourdes and St Jean de Luz. It is easy to drive into Spain or up to the ski resorts in the Pyrenees from Kevin and Nicky's Chateau. There is a boulangerie in their village, Gouze, and the croissants and bread are totally delicious from there. The Chateau and gite were easy to find as the motorway is not far. The local town at Orthez has all the shops, supermarkets, petrol stations, chemists and banks required on holiday. But we loved visiting the city of Pau as Lescar for its shops, history, views of the Pyrenees and restaurants. There is an airport at Pau as well as Biarritz and a train station. The train journey to Paris is 4 hours to Gare Montparnasse and you can rent a car from the train station - as well as the airports. Next time we return we want to visit the ski resort at Gourette. Gouze is 1 1/2 hours by car from Gourette. And we know that Kevin and Nicky will always be welcoming and accommodating. They have lived in France long enough to know how everything works and offer invaluable advice from schools, buying and selling in France to vineyards to visit. Our teenagers felt totally at home at our gite but equally there is enough to do for younger children with water slides, the pool and playhouses. We simply enjoyed sitting out over a drink and admiring the stunning landscaped gardens and views in peace.

Comfortable & high quality well equipped family home in countryside yet within 10mins of local town

5 of 5
Welcomed by friendly owner to show us around this super home in rural peace and quiet. House very comfy & well equipped with lots of space and modern fittings, immaculately clean and very well furnished too for a large group. Modern kitchen, table tennis table and WiFi all added to the home from home feeling. Large garden wrapped around property offered sun/shade as required but the modern, clean pool remained in sunshine. Location great for visits to river Bearne for paddling/swimming at Sauverre, two local restaurants of note in Salies, as well as day trips to Pau (cyclists will know) and San Sebastián or best of all St.Jean de Luc for a day on superb beach in sheltered bay. And bonus-delight of 'Spa' (we used the family facilities to swim)in local town too-super value for 9euros for an hour that we recommend as suitable for all. Great house, great location = excellent holiday. Thanks.
