Make a villa in Lecci your home away from home

Lecci is a small, wide-spread commune north of HomeAway's accommodation in Porto-Vecchio, one of Corsica's major ports. Holiday villas and apartments in Lecci not only place guests near some incredible beaches, but are also convenient for the mountains of Corsica's interior, and the facilities of the bustling resorts nearby. Accommodation in Lecci is spread between several resorts and villages, including Benedettu, Cala Rossa and San Cipriano, where some of HomeAway's finest seaside villas can be found. This area of Corsica is well known for its Roman ruins, abandoned, it is thought, because of the malaria associated with the surrounding marshland. This was reclaimed in the 16th century by the Genoese and eventually drained during WWII to eradicate the disease. Since then, the community has flourished beautifully.

A healthy number of Lecci holiday rentals have access to a pool, and most come with fully equipped kitchens, internet access, and satellite TV/DVD players. Rentals at Lecci are typically very convenient for the excellent beaches, but very few are wheelchair accessible due to their rural nature.

Things to do

Beaches: The beaches along this stretch of coast are particularly fine, with some sandy, and some rocky. Access from Lecci villas, in most cases, can be made on foot. Some of the more secluded beaches are only accessible by hiking in.

Nightlife: Porto-Vecchio has arguably the best nightlife on Corsica, but this isn't saying much if visitors are budding party animals... There are nightclubs with dancing until the wee hours, but it never gets as rowdy as the party towns on the mainland. Having said that, Via Notte claims to be the largest open-air nightclub in Europe, and has the potential to hold 8,000 people.

Outdoor pursuits: With this combination of mountains and coast, the choice of activities is virtually limitless. Hiking, mountain biking and horse trekking are widely available for the hills and mountains, while outlets along the beaches and in Porto-Vecchio supply the equipment for watersports excursions.

Shopping: As far as shopping in Corsica goes, Porto-Vecchio is pretty good for trendy clothes shops, souvenirs and specialty Corsican foods like the honeys, charcuterie, and local cheeses. For the self-caterer, there are several hypermarkets in Porto-Vecchio for food and sundries without the touristy markup.

Culture: Bronze Age ruins at Araghju are definitely worth a visit from those interested in culture and history, as is the guided tour through the Citadel of Porto-Vecchio. There are several other Bronze Age sites within easy driving distance. For art lovers, the Ranaldi Gallery should be on the list of things to do.

Weather in Lecci

Lecci has a typical Mediterranean climate, with hot summers, mild winters, and no real uncomfortable extremes. Most of the sparse precipitation falls during the autumn, and summer temperatures never really top 30°C. During the winter, it is regarded as unusual if the highs drop into the single digits.

Travel to Lecci

Direct flight options from the UK are limited to Ajaccio to the west and Bastia in the far north (both about 90 miles away). Solonzara Airport is only 30 miles to the north, but will require a connecting flight to a hub in mainland Europe, similarly with Figari airport, which is about 20 miles away. Regular ferries run to Marseille and several ports in Italy, so driving down is certainly feasible if a couple of days on the road isn't of great concern.

Comfortable and airy accommodation in a quiet location

5 of 5
We greatly enjoyed our stay in this spacious and comfortable farm cottage. Its quiet location was, for us, a real plus: the ability to eat breakfast on the front porch in the morning sun or relax on the rear patio in the evening was absolutely wonderful. The cottage's position made it easy for us to access the local beaches as well as walks and rock-pool swimming in the mountains inland. It is also conveniently placed for trips into Porto Vecchio and Bonifacio. There are some good restaurants and eating places in St Cyprien, situated a short distance away, as well as a very useful shop selling bread and groceries. The warm welcome we received from Paolo and his wife made us feel at home straight away. All in all, this delightful villa enabled us to have a most enjoyable and relaxing week in very pretty surroundings.
