A village that shares its name with several others in France, Le Puy in the Gironde department is a small village that has remained largely untouched by tourism. The commune is recognisable for its windmills, which often sit alone in sprawling vineyards, and provide a secluded and rural feel to any holiday in the commune. If you are looking for a peaceful and traditional village in Gironde, Le Puy is a good an example as any.

Things to do in Le Puy, France

Agriculture is the main economy in Le Puy, with plums, soya and wheat some of the main items under production. Wine is also produced in the area, with the famous Entre deux Mers (meaning: ‘between two seas’) variety the local speciality. If you have not already done so (or even if you have), trying a few glasses of this dry white wine is a must, and goes down particularly well when relaxing in the sunshine in a local bar, or in the comfort of your self-catering holiday villa in Le Puy.

Fishing is a popular activity in the lakes and reservoirs around Le Puy, with carp, pike and roach the most commonly caught types of fish. Around the commune are basic amenities and a few points of interest, with the most notable site in the village centre being the parish church of St Anne.

Nearby Monsegur is also well worth a look during your stay in Le Puy, and the similarly-sized village can be reached on foot or by bicycle in just a few minutes, as it is just over 1km away. Monsegur is most popular for its Friday morning market, where a variety of local food and drink items, artwork and crafts can be picked up at bargain prices – ideal as souvenirs of for using in your Le Puy holiday rental accommodation.

With Le Puy being a small village, it is likely that those holidaying here will decide to venture outside its borders at some point during their vacation. The Entre Deux Mers region is renowned for its hilly landscapes, vineyards and picturesque medieval villages, with the commune of Tabanac (45km) being a destination that contains great examples of all three. A little closer to Le Puy is St Foy Le Grande (23km), an old bastide town which is the home of yet another excellent weekly market.

Amazing property

The property had everything that we were looking for. Booking was very easy and the owners were more than helpful to ensure our time spent there went without any glitches. The house has everything that is stated in the listing, great heating (winter holiday), fantastic WiFi and great television systems for those relaxing evenings in front of a (huge) open fire. Ideally situated and close enough to local villages and towns. The property is set in an amazing elevated location with wonderful views of vineyards and the local surrounding countryside. My wife and I spent a whole month over the Christmas festive season at the property, so unfortunately didn't get the opportunity to experience the wonderful private swimming pool due to the winter climate. Although, I imagine it would be fantastic in the summer months. If you are looking to stay in a traditional French property with open wooden beams and superb surroundings then I would highly recommend this property to anyone. The historic town of Duras is roughly 7km away (as the crows fly) and here you can find everything you require such as; Bars, shops and restaurants. Bergerac is roughly 1 hours drive from the property, which has great shops and restaurants - a visit is highly recommended. In short, a wonderful month spent in a fantastic house with great surroundings. We would most certainly rent this property again in the future. Shirley and Bill we thank you. Steve and Jenny x

Stylish elegant home you won't want to leave

Wow! We are so lucky to have discovered such an outstandingly stylish home in which to spend a relaxing holiday enjoying the stunning setting from the beautifully appointed terrace and infinity pool overlooking vineyards. From the first contact Nora, Peter and Kristal were friendly, courteous and welcoming full of great ideas and suggestions for exploring the area including atmospheric local markets, fabulous wines and superb restaurant recommendations which combined with a very warm welcome and introduction to their gorgeous property full of stylish details where everything you could possibly need for a 5star stay is provided. This meant we could simply unpack, relax and enjoy their gift of a chilled bottle of champagne on the terrace to begin our holiday knowing they were on hand should we need any other guidance or recommendations during our time here. The memories of our stay here will remain with our family always and our two daughters aged 18 and 20 particularly enjoyed their own en suite bathrooms and TVs for some down time after taking full advantage of the pool and stylish sun loungers. The highlight of their holiday however was getting to know Kiwi and Lily the family's lovely dogs and we had to check they weren't smuggled into the car for our very reluctant journey home! We would love to return to this wonderful home next year as we have ordered some fabulous wine from this years harvest in St Emilion - an amazing and beautiful area to visit- so a great excuse to come over and collect it!
