Make A Holiday Rental Cottage in Laurens, France, Your Home Away From Home

Laurens is a pretty French village sitting amongst gentle vineyards, beneath the hills of the Massif Central, which loom large to the north. The village is ideally located to explore the exciting and varied landscapes of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, down in the south of France. Here you will find some varied and distinctive self-catering accommodation - including holiday apartments, rural gites and lovely well-furnished villas. The area is well-regarded by wine-lovers, for its famous Faugère wines and the vineyards make a lovely backdrop for your stay on your holidays in Laurens.

The village of Laurens is worth lingering in, allowing you to become well-versed in the rural calm and unhurried pace of the South of France. A short car ride away, to the south, lies the sunny warmth of the Mediterranean coast. Here you can indulge in the simple and relaxing pleasures of a day at the beach - sun-bathing, swimming in the sea and enjoying the seaside resorts and water parks. There is also much to do, for those of an active bent, in the surrounding areas of Herault. To the north are the ancient hills and peaks of the Massif Central. These forested, unspoilt wildernesses are superb for a range of activities - from cycling and hiking, to swimming and canoeing in the rivers. Places to Visit on Holiday in Laurens, France

A great place to start is the charming local town of Beziers, a short ride to the south. This town is at one end of the Canal-du-Midi, which runs between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, across the south of France. Boats can be hired from Villeneuve-les-Beziers and a wonderful day's journey up the canal can be had. The town has a great selection of shops and markets and is also culturally inclined, with a Fine Arts Museum hosting a van Gogh, among many other fine paintings. Further afield lies Carcassonne, an ancient fortified city which really does present an astonishing fairy-tale castle panorama.

Weather in Laurens, France

Because your holidays in Laurens will not be far from the Mediterranean, the climate is excellent – it is hot, sunny and dry throughout most of the summer. Temperatures in summer readily top 30°C and the area is known as one of the sunniest in France. The autumn and winter is somewhat wetter, but temperatures are not cold, falling to an average of 11 degrees Celsius in January. However, it is over the winter that the winds of the “tramontane” are prevalent. These blow down from the Massif Central, under certain weather conditions and can continue for weeks on end.

Travel to Laurens, France

Visitors who are keen to rent accommodation in Laurens have a couple of options for air travel. Both Beziers (BZR) and Montpellier (MPL) are connected by direct flights to the UK. Ryanair flies from Bristol (BRS) and London Luton (LTN), to the closest airport at Beziers. And both Ryanair and easyJet fly into Montpellier from Leeds (LBA), London Gatwick (LGW) and London Heathrow (LHR). Rail travel on the high-speed TGV trains, down to Montpellier, is another good option, especially since the direct connection to London St Pancras was made.

Rural quietude

4 of 5
Family of 9 readily accommodated in this house at the end of a cul de sac. Transport is essential as there are no real facilities in the village but the Lidl supermarket in Lamoulin is only 5 minutes drive away, and cheaper than Intermarche in Herepian. The heatwave ensured that the excellent pool was well used and that most of our living was done out of doors. Our particular crcumstances made the fact of the second (fully-equipped, incidentally) kitchen a godsend for the coeliac member of the party, ensuring no cross contamination of supplies. Pezenas and Olargues were well worth visiting, but kayaking on the Orb is only for the young and fit!! We had a fine time and would not rule out going back if circumstances allowed.

Luxury villa with fabulous pool in the best area

5 of 5
This villa is the very best we have stayed at, so much so that this is our third visit, and each time the villa just gets better. A party of six adults yet still so much space, extremely well equipped, large clean pool, stunning views and magical with the lights for night swimming, and so many terraces to choose from. Situated in the best spot of Autignac overlooking vineyards, watching the sunset on the balcony with the Pyrenees in the distance - what's not to love. The area is so perfect for such a variety of day trips, this year we explored Sete just an hours drive away and the old streets of Pezanas which have a similar feel to Carcassonne Castle, a morning river swimming and canoeing at Roquebrun and we always hire bikes from Veloroo who deliver & collect and book in some guided rides with Steve who shows you the best the area offers which differs every year lol. Still so much more to explore. Couche du Soleil has nothing to fault. We love it here and this villa spoils us, we will be back!
