  • Beautiful, away from it all farmhouse great for adults and older children but not for young children

This is a huge beautiful property full of French charm brilliantly designed to make you feel you are in the middle of nowhere, even though there are a number of properties around you. We were greeted by Jocelyne, who spoke brilliant English and was more than happy to help us during our stay. She recommended lots of places we might like and was on hand if needed. The outside of this property would be my favourite, a good size gated pool and peaceful large outside eating area. Inside the house is full of little areas to relax and a large dining room but no real lounging area big enough for a large group - if the weather is good outside is where you would all gather. The bedrooms are all lovely although 4 of which are not ensuite, for some reason I read the property details and thought they were? These 4 rooms share two good sized shower/bathrooms. We were a family group so this wasn't an issue. I would recommend this property to adults or family's with older children, however we were a large family group with 7 children, 4 of which age range was from 18months - 4years. Unfortunately this house is not suitable for young children. The house is full of glass top coffee tables, dangerous landings and staircases for young children - and steps everywhere. Even the TV room is a worrying place to be with bosterous toddlers as there are huge (toddler sized) gaps next to the seating areas straight over a landing. Although highchairs and travel cots can be provided apart from the swimming pool there is nothing else to occupy little ones. Older children and adluts however will love the pool, pool table and ping pong areas. The area itself is very quiet, a get away from it all type of place. The local town is small but has everything you need. We found cycling places, canoeing, tree top adventure (this is a fab place for all ages 3yrs +) and a castle (very steep walk but worth it) with falconry displays all within a short drive away. I did love our holiday and the place itself is absolutely beautiful with breathtaking views, I would go back when the young children are much older!

We (2 adults, 2 children) stayed in this property for a week in August. The property was very clean and everything was in good working order. Night-time and early morning temperatures were low due to the altitude, but it soon warmed up and by lunchtime it was quite hot. Le Chambon-sur-Lignon is quite small, but it has all the shops you might need during your stay (bakers, supermarkets, ice-cream parlours, pharmacy, etc.). It is an ideal base for visiting the Haute-Loire region. The owner Miriam was very kind and helpful and responded immediately to any query or issue (including evenings and weekends). She was also very knowledgeable about the best places to visit and things to do with children, which really helped us make the most of our holiday.
