We stayed at this beautiful old water mill for a week in September 2018.
The gite itself has been renovated to a very high standard and had everything we needed for our stay. The pool is in a beautiful garden setting and we had it to ourselves the whole week.
There is your own garden next to the gite overlooking the stream and we spent every evening sitting watching the sun go down.
It's location is perfect for exploring the area and we visited both Bordeaux and St Emillion.
We would highly recommend this gite.
We enjoyed a perfect 8-night stay in the Kiwi Cottage. It was our first visit to the Dordogne River area. We loved the quiet, rural nature with lush vineyards and blooming fields of sunflowers. We are a couple, so the 1-bedroom cottage with the comfy king bed was perfect for our needs. The cottage is modest, but nice, clean, and well-maintained. With the bountiful local markets (such as in Ste. Foy), we were very happy to cook in a couple of nights and eat breakfast 'at home' – the kitchen was suitably equipped.
It was a fairly hot time during our visit, so we really enjoyed the pool –beautiful, pristine, and perfect for lap swimming and general cooling off, and lots of lounges for sunbathing. (There is a covered outdoor gas barbecue grill by the pool, however we did not take advantage of this.) We especially enjoyed night swims with the moonlight. The cottage's air-conditioning was necessary and very much appreciated.
Although seemingly quite rural, the cottage is just slightly over an hour from the Bordeaux airport, and perfectly situated for day trips to numerous chateaux, the vineyards of St. Emilion, beautiful medieval villages, such as Sarlat la Caneda, and canoeing on the Dordogne.
As others have noted, Caspian and Lulu are very gracious and fun hosts, and we now consider them great friends. Their recommendations for places to visit, restaurants, etc. were most helpful and generous. We loved their insights and conversations so much...we look forward to connecting again soon.
