Peace and quiet, and a great cottage.

We spent ten days here over Christmas 2017. We slept every night with our window open so we could hear the the sound of the river water, and nothing else. Not a car, or a dog barking; it was so quiet. On clear nights the stars were absolutely amazing. We loved it. The cottage is a converted railway crossing keepers house, but don't worry, there are no trains passing anymore to disturb you. The house had everything that we needed for a comfortable stay, and was warm and cosy. Calvignac is well situated as a base for exploring the area. We canoed on the river Lot, walked and ran in the local countryside, and visted Cahors, Figeac, Rocamadour and St Cirque Lapopie. The town of Cajarc is about ten minutes away by car, and has a large range of shops, an outdoor market, and a supermarket. There is a good mobile phone reception in the cottage. Veronique and Thierry, the owners of the cottage, live nearby so are available if you need them. We had a brilliant stay here, and were genuinely sad to leave.

Spacious and traditional in the heart of the Lot

The house as the photos show is a traditional one retaining many original and attractive features. The garden is extensive and completely secure for dogs. Fig trees, apple trees and plum trees in the garden. It overlooks the Lot valley on the other side of the river from Saint Cirq. A brilliant area for walkers and dog owners. Get the walking guides from Tourist Office in SC and follow the yellow signs on the trees if you are unsure. The nearest vignoble is about 20 minutes drive- La Magdelaine (really helpful and not frightening). Be aware of frequent breathaliser checks at all times of the day after lunch. Great local markets. Good auberge about 250 metres (though the owner is a little austere) The kitchen is very well equipped indeed and beds comfortable but the garden is the star of the property. Owners very open and helpful with advice - shared with us the proceeds of their vegetable garden. Lovely views, quiet road. Great boulangerie nearby. Saint Cirq is a 5 minute drive - recommend Car Park 5 if steep hills are a challenge or Car Park 1/2 if you enjoy steep climbs Be aware that you are expected to return the property in pristine condition
