The local residents – known as Nonaisiens – are a friendly bunch, and are always welcoming to a foreign visitor that has chosen their village as their base from which to explore Brittany. The small selection of shops, cafes and bars in La-Ville-es-Nonais are largely local independents rather than chain stores, and purchasing then cooking with local produce bought from these stores has a rewarding feel to it. The local bakery comes highly recommended.

La-Ville-es-Nonais lies on the edge of the Bassin de le Rance, and some great views out over the river can be enjoyed from the edges of the village. Fishing is the main activity on the river, but the bravest are the ones that go for a dip – as the waters can cold even during summer months. The riverbanks are also great for a lazy stroll or a picnic, with a couple of cafes and river beaches to be found on the route riverbank route that links La-Ville-es-Nonais to it neighbouring village of Saint-Suliac.

La-Ville-es-Nonais is well positioned from which to explore the surrounding area. Saint-Suliac is just 3km away and (as previously mentioned) can be reached via a riverside track – either by bicycle or on foot. Attractions in Saint-Suliac include a picture-postcard post area, a series of hiking trails and a number of 14th and 15th century houses that have brightly-coloured facades. Golf lovers should head to the excellent course at Le Tronchet, km to the south-east.

La-Ville-es-Nonais is at its most pleasant between May and September, when temperatures above 20°C are common, and the mercury can sometimes reach 25°C and beyond. Outside of these months the weather is mild with the odd shower, but some accommodation bargains are there to be had if you are prepared to visit outside of peak season.

If you are looking for a way to get to your La-Ville-es-Nonais accommodation via air travel, the best bet is to a take a Ryanair flight from either East Midlands or London Stansted Airport to Dinard – Pleurtuit – Saint-Malo Airport (DNR), which is just 10km away. Saint-Malo also has a port, which receives regular ferry crossings from Portsmouth.

Beautiful, well equipped property with an amazing garden

Just returned from a very relaxing stay at the Ebony Orchard. The house is a lovely size and very tastefully decorated with comfortable seating in the lounge area and plenty of seating options to enjoy the wonderful garden. The pool was lovely for a refreshing dip in the afternoon and the height of the pool surround meant it was just like standing at a swim up bar. The wonderful gardens have to be seen to be believed as they seem to stretch on endlessly with their very own badminton and boules court. Laurence and Jacky were very friendly on the rare occasions that we saw them and I was very happy that Laurence's English was much better than my French. The village is about a mile away which was really handy as we visited the fantastic Boulangerie every day for their wonderful bread and croissant. This was a very restful and peaceful stay in tranquil surroundings which I would highly recommend. Diane & Bas
