We rented the chalet for two weeks in August, in the middle of the heat wave. It was nice and shaded, the kids played in the water all day long pretty much the whole second week. Having access to the kayaks was a great bonus. We ate on the terrace most of the times and had picnics and a barbecue on the river side. We had a very nice basket of essentials and wine on arrival which was a very kind touch.
Overall, we spent a lovely holiday.
Downsides were : someone/previous visitors had left dog poo around the place so the gravel area was not a place we could let the children play in. The outdoor description on the ad doesn’t match the reality. The barbecue at the back was not in a usable state. The beach is absolutely not private and not accessed directly from the house. The pictures must have been taken about 10 years ago as everything is now overgrown and the beach closest to the house is barely accessible.
The path leading to the house is more akin to a minefield than a path so drive slowly. The closest boulangerie is 6 miles away, so be prepared in case you thought you could take a gentle stroll every morning.
We enjoyed the isolation on our second week when we knew we just wanted to chill by the water. If you want to use the chalet as a base for visits, and do back and forth trips, this may not be the best option.
Najac is one of the most beautiful villages in France and Maureen's much loved little home is right in the middle of it. Built along a ridge leading up to a castle, the walk to the local patisserie is a bit of a climb, however, when you stop to catch your breath and turn around, the view is absolutely worth it. So is the pastry at the end. The most apt way I can think of to describe this little village house is that it felt like home. It's charm and comfort, not to mention the view from the terrace, far outweighed any of the disadvantages of living in such close proximity to others. Something I'm not used to. I would like to thank Maureen for her care and thoughtfulness. It was a pleasure to meet you.
