Beautiful gite. Perfect hosts.

5 of 5
We were met by an extremely welcoming host Aline who spoke excellent English. She showed us around the gite explaining everything we needed to know and was warm and kind to us. She even provided us with eight little pots of homemade jam as a welcome gift which was a nice gesture (and delicious). The gite is attached to the main house and was once the stable area. The host's husband has refurbished these stables and what a transformation. The decor is beautiful and elegant - with soft grey and white colours used throughout. The gite was absolutely spotless inside and was a real credit to the owners hard work. The main large room had a sofa, two chairs, a large "clock style" coffee table and a television. On the opposite side of the room was the kitchen area and a large kitchen table. The kitchen provided everything we needed. There was a full sized fridge freezer, a combination microwave/oven/grill, a four ring induction hob, sink, small dishwasher and breakfast bar area. Also provided is a kettle and toaster. Everything in the kitchen again was spotlessly clean, the plates, cutlery, glasses, tea towels, saucepans etc etc were brand new and of good quality. There is a separate downstairs toilet and then the main bathroom which has a second toilet. The bathroom was modern and again extremely clean. The shower was amazing - multi head and powerful which provided a great start to the day. Towels were provided as was a powerful hair dryer. Upstairs were two bedrooms which again were beautifully decorated in pale colours. The bed was firm and provided a perfect nights sleep. The traditional shutters and curtains meant you could block all the light out and the area where the gite is located is peaceful and quiet. There are two cupboards for clothes and little touches like providing a large stand up fan just add to the overall experience. Outside is a table and chairs and the hosts provided us with a BBQ and two mountain bikes if we wanted to use them. They then left us alone to enjoy our stay although if you needed anything they were close enough by to simply knock at their door. The gite is located approximately a 500 metres walk from the Loire river and the area is perfect for cycling (it's pretty flat) which is why we chose here. There are shops and restaurants etc nearby although you would require a car to get about. Would highly recommend this gite and the wonderful hosts to anyone and would definitely stay again if we return to the area.

Out of season trip

4 of 5
We booked the first week of April. We found the apartment easily from Nantes Airport (nearly 2 hours drive). We let ourselves into the apartment following the owners helpful instructions. Parking was extremely difficult and became a cumbersome past time. Located in the middle of the town centre, traffic was very busy and noisy at times. Parking was a premium (not helped as apparently the main car park was shut for restoration) The owners met us later on the evening of arrival and explained a few helpful points and thoughtfully left us a bottle of sparkling wine. The apartment was tidy, rustic, bright and airy and well equipped with most things you would need. The washer/dryer was really useful. The TV worked intermittently which wasn't a big deal for us as a DAB radio was provided. Internet worked well and a little desk is provided. The bathroom was roomy but could do with a make over. We did struggle with the shower - which although, thankfully, was hot and powerful ; it was set at an unreachable and unadjustable height over the bath. Also the shower curtain was precariously fixed to the wall in danger of falling down and does need attention. The bedroom was cosy and Bright with lots of mirrors and a little wardrobe. Whilst the mattress was very soft, and linen was provided; the pillows could do with replacement. There was alot of local literature provided although Many of the attractions and facilites were still closed for the winter season (chateau, boat tours etc) We had a lovely meal at l'Escargot and Grand Bleu. But be warned - Most places typically are closed on a Sunday and Monday. The Saturday market had a good selection of fresh fish and artisan products. We visited the stunning Fontevraud Abbey where, due to the quiet season, we had the place to ourselves. We were also given a free tour at the Ackerman Caves. All in all we would recommend to those who enjoy the rural quieter pace of life, and to non drivers ! but after 10 years of living and holidaying in France, we personally think it's time for a change ! On a final note our deposit refund took 10 days as opposed to the 3 days promised by the owner. Bon vacances !
