Hyeres, the city of palm trees, is the most southerly city of Provence, build on a peninsula jutting out into the Mediterranean. Hyeres is a beautiful city of colour, surrounded by 39km of glorious sandy beaches and blessed with more hours of sunshine than any other city in Provence.

Things to do in Hyeres, France

Hyeres holidays revolve largely around the sea and the beach. With almost 40km of clean, soft sand beaches surrounding the city, it is little wonder that a Hyeres holiday is considered one of the finest beach holidays you can find in Europe. The sheltered port of Hyeres is filled with private yachts, including those of the French sailing team for much of the year. Sailing is an important part of life in Hyeres, and there are many opportunities to sail, fish, scuba dive or take a boat trip along the Cote d’Azur. The city of Hyeres itself is a set back a little from the beach and is a magnificent place to explore. With wide shop laden streets opening into large 12th Century squares Hyeres has a wonderful mix of tradition and luxury. The daily market in the Place Massillon is lively and the maze of streets to the north of the square offer a couple of excellent view points over the coastal plains. It is in this part of Hyeres that you will find the huge Park St Bernard, which is awash with the colour of flowering plants for much of the year, offering a wonderfully peaceful place from which to enjoy views along the coast.

To the west of Hyeres is a large area of forested hills known as the Maures, which is a wonderful location for hiking and cycling holidays in Hyeres. You can find information on trails and routes from the tourist information office, and it is advisable to get a specialist map if you are planning on taking a Hyeres cycling holiday. There are a number of stables in Hyeres which take guided rides throughout the Hyeres countryside too.

Lovely house in a very good location

5 of 5
Great house in a quiet location, but at the same time close to everything you might need - supermarket, town centre & beaches are within a very easy reach. House itself has everything you might need with plenty of space for 6 of us, as well as outside space with terrace, outside kitchen & BBQ. Owner is extremely helpful, will be returning for sure. Thank you

nice property with some limitations

4 of 5
The property was nice but very difficult to find on the top of the hill (the route didn't show up on any of our sat navs). The building complex is a bit run down and there are strict house rules especially for the pool, which was tough on the kids (no ball games, no swim noodles, etc.). The beach is approx. 3km away. We were unlucky as our car has been broken into on Giens beach and there were very strong winds while we were there (good for surfers but less with young kids). There were some additional charges for towels, sheets and tax that was only made clear after the booking, but not visible on the website. Otherwise we had an enjoyable stay.
