Fabulous at the time and lovely memories

5 of 5
This is a delightful and perfect setting for a relaxing holiday; Maubec was ideal for our three generation three-week sojourn - sufficiently spacious, well equipped, and homely; it's not a characterless holiday rental, but is obviously somebody's home and to our mind all the better for that. We considered it a bit of a privilege to be using it. We liked the various reminders of the Soames family (their pictures; a rather well stocked library of interesting books; their children's toys). We were impressed with the thoroughness of the weekly clean, and although it's what you'd expect, the fresh sheets and towels were still a welcome surprise. We loved the small hamlet of St Lary Boujean (not much to do, to be honest, but great for gentle walks, or runs for the younger of our party, in the surrounding countryside; friendly locals on whom to try out our faltering French) and the proximity to the nearby small and sleepy town of Boulogne sur Gesse (small supermarket, Wednesday 'proper' market, post office, cafes). It all feels off the beaten track - not many people speak English and tourism is all low key. Our stay was blessed with some prodigiously hot weather, so inevitably the pool became the focus of activity; it's of a high quality and impressively well maintained. It's provided with ample loungers for, well, lounging. The cooler evenings saw the barbecue and outside dining area a splendid setting for family meals. This became something of the highlight of each day. There were other welcome diversions too - the four year olds loved the trampoline and the teenagers acquired skills in snooker that will set them up well in the future. We had a memorable and very happy holiday at Maubec; over and above the house itself and its amenities this was greatly helped by the communication with the owner, Alistair, who always responded with impressive promptness, and by the approachability of his local 'representatives'; Annette who dealt with housekeeping, and Ian who looked after the pool. We've all been on holidays when you can't wait to get home; this though was a holiday which held you until the very last moment of your stay. We really were sorry to leave.

Pyrenean Peaceful Paradise

5 of 5
I stayed in the barn for 10 days with my 12 year old son. The area is completely rural and mostly agricultural with very pretty villages and amazing mountain views, raging rivers and big skies. We loved our stay in the barn, it is beautifully furnished, very comfortable and every tiny detail has been thought of to make you feel well looked after. Plenty of towels and linen included ( not so with the Gite we had come from where we had to provide our own or rent it).. Jule’s hospitality is simply amazing! She is not only on hand to help and make suggestions but she goes the extra mile to make your stay really fun and memorable...there were bikes for us to use and picnic equipment, as well as everything else you could anticipate you might need or like on your holiday! We had fun enjoying the mountains and rivers, the restaurants, castles and markets and were always happy to return home to our barn... Thank you.
