Make a holiday home or cottage in Gard your home away from home

Gard, France

Gard is a department in southern France, in the unspoilt rural region of Languedoc. Gard, France is a beautiful department, with stunning Mediterranean beaches, dramatic gorges running through the hills, and small stone villages basking in the summer sun. Gard is also steeped in tradition having been a Roman stronghold, and the local art, music and delicacies all have very distinct local flavours. Taking a holiday home in Gard gives you the freedom, space and privacy to relax and explore this wonderful area at your own pace.

The Mediterranean beaches at the southern tip of Gard are very popular. A Gard cottage rental or a Gard rental villa in the medieval walled town of Aiges-Mortes will let you enjoy not only the history of this part of Gard, but also the sweeping beaches and modern resorts of Le Grau du Roi, Port Camargue and La Grande Motte.

Being a rural department, there is some fantastic walking and hiking to be enjoyed, with forested hills and dramatic gorges. There are some famous walks available from a cottage in Gard, arriving at the Pont du Gard in Nimes, and details of these can be found in tourist offices all around the department. Gard also offers exhilarating climbing in the Cevennes Mountains as well as mountain biking, horse riding in oak forests and canoeing in the Gorges du Gardon.

Cultural events, especially revolving around the music of Gard, are often held in Saint-Laurent-des-Arbres, and at these festivals, those in self-catering holiday villas in Gard can stock up on local delicacies and wine.

We spent six fabulous days here, and we can't say enough great things about it. First of all, the apartment is spotlessly clean. It has a full kitchen supplied with everything you could need. The bathroom has a great shower, and lots of towels are supplied. And there is plenty of room. We were a party of seven, and we didn't feel crowded. Outside there is plenty of seating in both the sun and the shade, and the kitchen is fantastic. The pool is a great size, and there are plenty of toys for floating. The home is an easy one hour ride from Avignon on the B23 bus through several pretty villages, or a 30 minute drive. We enjoyed day trips to Orange, Arles and Avignon, and there are many more options in the area. And finally, the most important part, Linda and John are phenomenal hosts. We were made to feel very much at home. We had plenty of privacy, but Linda was always available, if we needed anything. We had an amazing time in Laudun, and our kids talk about "Linda's house" every day. Great memories were made here.

                                      A fabulous place to stay!

Patrice's apartment is the most wonderful place to stay. You could not be in a better location - easy walking to everything. The food market is just down the road - as is the old town, fabulous cafes/restaurants/art - you really are in the heart of Nimes. The flat itself is in a wonderful building, and once you walk into the apartment it has the wow factor - whilst being truly comfortable and a pleasure to inhabit. The kitchen is well-stocked, great bathroom and a super bed - we had our best nights' sleep of the whole holiday whilst staying here. We loved looking out over the rooftops through the windows, and wherever you sit, there is a painting to look at from a new perspective. Beautifully decorated. In addition Patrice is a wonderful host - very helpful with restaurant suggestions, parking tips, places to visit - a lovely personality. We cannot recommend this property more highly.

Just left avignon after an 11 night stay in this beautiful villa. The property is spotlessly clean and so well equipped you couldn't ask for more. Big thanks to therese for all her help, nothing was too much trouble. If we were to return to avignon I would not hesitate to stay in this villa again....
