  • My Favourite Holiday Ever
    5 of 5

We visited this wonderful castle for the 2nd time. As we live in Australia, it was part of our European trip and Chateau Gerard was definitely the highlight. We organised this stay of one week with friends from the USA, Denmark and Australia. It worked very well, as the castle with its 10 bedrooms, large kitchen and huge dining and lounge rooms lends itself for such a get together. With 4 cars between us, we explored the areas individually. We visited Vezelay, the Abbey of Fontenay, Semour, Auxerre, D’Ancy de Franc, all within a relative short distance from the castle. Each afternoon coming home, we met around the swimming pool in its peaceful surroundings and exchanged our experiences of the day over wine, which we mainly bought from the wineries in nearby Chablis. Dinner was easy and fun. Our delicious entrees were bought from a special butcher/deli in Noyers, who also had excellent pieces of meat and poultry for our BBQ. The desert also came from Noyers, the boulangerie across the boucherie with the tastiest tarts. Most of our dinners we had on the terrace under candle light. (the weather was perfect). The last dinner we held inside, just to experience what’s it like to be king and queen in a castle. It is a special Place and we came back with such fond memories.

  • Good flexible accommodation with all facilities required for a large group
    4 of 5

We were a group of 18 so we hired both parts of the accommodation. There is plenty of space for the whole group to sit and dine together and the kitchen has everything needed to cater for a large group. The bedrooms were comfortable and clean. The bedroom layout was a bit tricky as we had a lot of teenagers and the double rooms are mezzanine floors with beds downstairs in the same room, but we were able to get round this. The pool is lovely - it was exceptionally hot when we were there, so it was well used! The volleyball was a hit when it cooled in the evening. This is a very quiet area and a good place to get away from it all. We did a lot of cycling and this is a great area to explore by bike. The Bourgogne canal is close and has an excellent cycle path and the local roads are very quiet. There are a couple of chateau and some lovely unspoilt towns close by. Auxerre is also worth a visit. All in all a very good holiday. Many thanks Nathalie.
