The medieval village of Flayosc perches on a rocky hill in the Draguignan region of Provence in southern France. The circular wall of houses that form a sort of defensive wall around the village are an iconic image of medieval Provence, and providing a sight that will warm the hearts of any visitor.
A large amount of time should be spent leisurely exploring Flayosc, regardless of how long you intent to stay in a Flayosc apartment or villa. The hilltop village centre is a colourful area of apartments and houses around the fortified tower of St Laurent church, which dominates the skyline. The centre of Flayosc is a beautiful place to simply sit and relax, with the sound of water gushing from the highly attractive fountain ringing in your ears. There is also a wonderful walkway through the village, hidden from most visitors, and taking those discerning enough to find it past some of the oldest buildings of Flayosc and past some of the most remarkable gardens.
Flayosc is known locally to be one of the best places to find a good restaurant. Restaurants remain open even on a Sunday in Flayosc, providing mouth watering local delicacies and great value for money. The wines produced in the Var department are all readily available in Flayosc, giving you a wonderful selection to choose from during your meal. Restaurants stay open much later than they do at home, and there are some fantastic little bars to frequent during your stay in Flayosc accommodation, although don’t expect a vibrant clubbing scene!
The surrounding countryside is littered with olive groves and vineyards, many of which offer tours and wine tasting sessions, but travel a little further and the countryside opens up into a heady mix of mountains and forests. The huge roman bridge to the north west of Flayosc and the beautiful waterfall to the south are both excellent destinations for walks from the village. There are also olive mills, vineyards and even a doll’s hospital to find in the surrounding countryside. Golfers will also be right at home in a Flayosc property, as there are some top class golf courses near the village.
The beaches of the Cote d’Azur are just half an hour’s drive from a self catering Flayosc property rental. During the summer months, the appeal of the beaches is overwhelming, and once you see the vast expanses of fine, golden sand that lines the coastline, you too will be unable to resist a long day in the sun. The closest beaches are those of the St Tropez region, including Les Issambres, St Raphael and Frejus. Water sports are absolutely fantastic in the area, and whether you would like to simply relax with the sun on your face and the sand between your toes or get active in the clear, warm waters of the Mediterranean, opportunities are common.
Flayosc has a wonderfully warm, Mediterranean climate, with temperatures in July and August reaching around 28˚C in July and August, with daily peaks reaching well into the mid to high 30’s (˚C) on a daily basis. The warmth of the day lasts long into the evening, and eating outside is a real pleasure from May until late September.
Nice International Airport (NCE) is just under an hour from a holiday rental property in Flayosc, France. There are a huge range of direct flights to Nice from the UK, with services landing in a daily basis, especially during the summer months, when flights arrive almost hourly. Finding a suitable cheap flight to Flayosc should be very easy, with airport transfers in great abound. A hire car is not an essential asset from a Flayosc villa, but is recommended for anyone wishing to explore a little further than just the village.
