  • Piece of Provencal Paradise!
    4 of 5

We wanted to award la Maison du Canard 4.5* as it is so close to being the perfect home-from-home for an authentic Provencal holiday, but you can't! The house is set in an ideal situation about 10 minutes walk from the pretty village of Flayosc and a short drive to Draguignan for all the shops, museums and supermarkets you need. Flayosc has a really great bakery close the church; a friendly greengrocers close to the post office and a great deli in the same location. The restaurants are mostly found in the main square, with 3 attempting reasonably priced high-end cuisine, but we found Le Melissan to be good value for money, with cheerful service and good food. We also had a superb meal at Le Cigalon (close to the village car-park and Boules courts) sitting on its intimate terrace. The house itself is airy and more than spacious enough for the six of us and has been tastefully decorated and furnished to keep its Provencal heritage whilst embracing the modern. It is easy to see the owners obvious passion for French brocante! Downstairs the master bedroom is extremely large, but the twin bedroom rather cramped and no access to a wardrobe. Also the separate wc feels rather claustrophobic and being under the stairs lacks ventilation! However, one feels you could easily just live upstairs if only 4 stayed at the house. The dining and living area is comfortable and has modern media system- but we never once used it. (Very good wi-fi though - necessary for 2 teen girls!) We spent most of our time at the house so made good use of the kitchen and bbq. Yes, the kitchen needs up-dating, but we found it perfectly serviceable - the fridge was fine and the hob a typical electric one. Again, the kitchen has a Provencal authenticity to it, so to up-grade it unsympathetically would loose the house's identity and would be a shame. La Maison du Canard's piece de resistance is its outside terrace with perfect pool, patio furniture and super views. It was the best place to relax and enjoy the sun. The terraced gardens have the potential to be amazing - we made use of the herbs. Judith had warned about the tiger mosies, so took all precautions, but the minute the sun disappears behind the trees they appear on the terrace! Next door's spaniel also often took a stroll through the gardens! Also, be careful when popping down to the chapel -a lovely St Bernard followed us back & explored! Special mention must also go to Judith and Keith who were on hand at a text!

  • A wonderfully relaxing holiday in a perfect location
    5 of 5

We had the most wonderful stay! The house is a home from home with everything we needed for a great family holiday. As others have said, we spent most of our 2 weeks lying by the pool and eating on the veranda or in the outside dining area at the back of the house. I’ve never stayed somewhere with more entertainment for the kids and adults alike. The pool table, table football, darts, pétanque and ping pong really added to our enjoyment. I’m not sure how Mark manages to be there when you need him but never impose on your privacy and allows you to feel completely free to make yourself entirely at home. He has a relaxed and friendly manner which makes you feel very welcome and able to fully switch off from the pressures of normal life. Lorgues is a lovely old town and we managed to walk to and from town even in extremely hot conditions! The house is well equipped with fans in every room so we didn’t miss aircon. The pool is really nice and deep at the deep end which meant my kids could practise their diving. Everything was clean, well maintained and well equipped . I’d really love to come back one day. Thank you!
