Make a holiday cottage in Fecamp your home away from home

Fecamp is a historic and traditional fishing town in Normandy and can boast association with such luminaries as writer Guy du Maupassant and painter Raoul Dufy, as well as Edward the Confessor who was exiled here. Holiday cottages in Fecamp are the ideal choice for exploring this fascinating part of Normandy and beyond. When choosing holiday cottages in Fecamp from HomeAway you are guaranteed well-maintained and facilitated properties, all set up for a comfortable stay.

Things to do

Fecamp offers something for everyone. The town is very pretty with a pebble beach, there is stunning architecture and many ways to experience Fecamp’s history. With Honfleur, Deauville and Dieppe all within easy driving distance, holiday cottages in Fecamp are Normandy at its best.

-Benedictine liqueur was first made in Fecamp in 1863 by Alexander Le Grand, and today the Palais de Benedictine is still the home of the distillery, as well as a museum that tells its intriguing story and exhibits artefacts associated with the liqueur and its makers. Open to visitors, sampling the liquer in its birthplace is a must.

-Museums are a good way to find out about the history of a place and in Fecamp there is plenty of choice. Whether you are interested in the history of fishing in Normandy, the town’s Gallo-Roman origins, or have a taste for all things chocolate, you’ll be catered for, together with plenty for general art and museum enthusiasts.

-The cliffs at Etretat are just 14km away from most holiday homes in Fecamp and have been the inspiration for some of France’s greatest artists, including Monet. There are pebble beaches and needles that will take your breath away. There is a sailing school or you can take to the sea in a kayak.

-The architecture of Fecamp has plenty to keep visitors interested on strolls around the town. There is a fascinating mix of civil and church architecture, particularly in the Old Town. The Chateaux Ducal, for example, is a ruin but still manages to give an excellent insight as to the way people lived as far back as the 10th Century having been built by William The Conqueror. There is a magnificent view across Fecamp from the observation platform of the Chapel Notre-Dame-du-Salut.

-Le Havre is a popular trip for visitors in Fecamp holiday cottages. The port is more modern than a lot of the area and can seem quite harsh in comparison to the smaller coastal communities although it is recognised as a world heritage site by UNESCO. Must-visit places include the Church of St Joseph with its stunning stained glass windows and the Volcan, a cultural centre that hosts films, theatre and musical performances.don’t miss the Musee Malraux best known for its Impressionist paintings including Monet’s “Water Lillies”, Bodins 'Deux chevaux à l'écurie' and 'La Jetée d'Honfleur' by Dubourg. After an immersion into the culture of Normandy a trip to the beach and a stroll along the promenade is called for.

The Weather in Fecamp

Throughout the summer there is little to worry about with regards to the weather. There is plenty of sun but it must be remembered there is sometimes rain to go with it. Temperatures can be a comfortable 24°C during the day, then dropping to a still warm 14°C during the night.

The house was perfect for our requirements for three adults.

5 of 5
The large bedroom on the top floor had a very large adjacent bathroom. There was a good sized bedroom on the first floor for our single man who used the large shower room on the ground floor. There was plenty of sitting in the lounge area and the kitchen and facilities were ample for our needs. The pretty courtyard at the back was an added bonus. Patricia went out of her way to help us with a car problem ie she rang a garage for us and took us several miles to get the car repaired. We were so grateful for her generosity. The house is very conveniently situated. The sea and restaurants are close by. There is a short walk into the immediate shopping area with a small supermarket and baker etc. The main town area is a little further along and contains all the shops one expects. Restaurants and cafes are plentiful. The museum is charming. The surrounding area is delightful - plenty to explore. Dieppe is lovely. Great fun on dustbin day when the cars have to be moved to one side of the road - the locals were enthusiastically helpful! We parked the car in the road and we never had a problem finding a space. We would certainly return to the house again as we were very happy there and Patricia was an exceptional host.

house with a view!

4 of 5
We had a wonderfull weekend in Fécamp! The house was like we expected. Very spacious and comfy. And what a view! Really a view to die for :) The contact with the owners was very easy, and they are very reactive. If we had a question, we always got a prompt answer. Environment of Fécamp is really pretty. From the house, you can easily walk to the bakery and the butchery, what is very convenient in the mornings. Bakery is also open on Sundays whole day! A walk to the port or the city center is also not far (be prepared to walk up on your way back). We would recommend this property to family and friends without hesitation.
