  • Great house & pool, lovely garden with amazing views across the valley
    5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this property. The house is located on one side of a valley, giving stunning views. The house is modern, spacious and clean, the pool is great (although not heated) but the stand out for us was the lovely garden. You can sit in sun, or in tree covered shady areas while soaking up the views. If it all gets too much, then swing in a hammock, BBQ, eat and drink under the Verandah (which gets the late afternoon/early evening sun). One highlight of our stay was a late night rescue of a young Hare that we heard splashing around in the pool! The Ardeche region has great driving roads, so if you have a motorbike or a sports car, be sure to bring it with you! Lamastre was a bit quiet (off season) but had a good local Supermarket. Tournon-sur-Rhone was an excellent place to go for eating out and only a half hour drive away. We hired Bikes and cycled on Le Dolce Via (old railway line) from Le Cheylard to Nonieres, which is a gentle uphill 8km ride. We also enjoyed the Train de l' Ardeche "Gorges" route, on open carriages behind a steam train. The owner was very helpful, and was quickly on hand to help with anything we didn't understand, even helping us to choose a good restaurant for our final night. Thoroughly recommended!

  • Lovely and relaxing
    4 of 5

We had a lovely stay in the Petite Ouse gite. It was very clean and well appointed and Annabel was very helpful. We particularly enjoyed the welcome/ farewell drink with the various other guests on the Sunday evening and the circus on Friday. There are a couple of points that need noting. It was extremely hot when we were there, high 30’s, and there are no fans, this made sleeping extremely uncomfortable. I would recommend taking your own if at all possible. Also, the picture of the pool on the website is extremely deceptive. It is about 10m long but at most 2m wide, and probably 2m deep, making most, average height people, out of their depth all the time. The pool is very congested with more than a handful of people in it because it is so narrow. We also found out that pool usage timings are restricted. Luckily we discovered this at the end of our holiday when we had been freely using the pool for most of the time, but guests really ought to be made aware of this. The estate around the chateau is available for guests to freely roam around and is charming and full of lovely trees. The horses, donkeys and various dogs were regular visitors to the gite, and paddocks adjoining, which added to the relaxed atmosphere of the whole place. Beausemblant itself is a short walk away and has a good little bakery and shop which we used, there is a bar/restaurant too but we didn’t go there. The next town has a large Intermarche so everything very convenient.
