Make a holiday rental villa or property in Duras, France your home away from home

The village of Duras lies in the heart of France’s wine making region, located in the Lot-et-Garonne department. Perfectly peaceful and set in amongst some of the most attractive scenery in the Dordogne, Duras is a rural retreat of the highest quality.

Things to do in Duras, France

Wine is a huge part of life in Duras, and it shall certainly form a large part of your Duras holiday. The large French vineyards of Lot-et-Garonne often offer vineyard tours and wine tasting sessions, which are great fun for both wine connoisseurs and interested wine drinkers alike.

The area surrounding Duras is stepped in history, from the charming medieval Bastide villages to the imposing fortified chateaux, Duras is a fantastic spot to explore the history of France and the historical contests between England and France that occurred in the region. There are so many historic sites of interest, including the world famous pre-historic caves scattered through the area, that you could spend your entire Duras holiday sightseeing. One of the best ways to explore however is on foot, by bicycle or on horse back. The Duras Tourist Information centre has detailed routes you can follow, taking advantage of local knowledge and the magnificent walking and riding paths that adorn the countryside.

The rivers of the Dordogne and Vezere are fantastic places for sport and relaxation too. Both rivers offer exceptional fishing, (permits for which are available from any local tabac), and are clean and clear enough to allow refreshing dips during the summer months, which are especially appreciated on walking holidays during the hot summer months. Canoeing trips along the river also provide some of the best, and least seen, views of the Duras chateaux, caves and castles too.

Golfers are also very well catered for. The exceptional Chateau de Vigiers golf course offers a fantastic 18 hole round in glorious Lot-et-Garonne landscapes, as well as all the rental and practice facilities you might need to blow away the cobwebs after your journey. The club house is also home to gyms, restaurants and spa facilities for those requiring a little pampering after their attempts to conquer the course! All you need to book a round here is your handicap certificate.

Places to visit on holiday in Duras, France

Any wine connoisseur or in fact anyone with even a passing interest in wine should visit St Emilion. St Emilion and its vineyards have been named by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, for its wine heritage, as well as the beautiful Monolithic Church carved from a solid limestone cliff.

During the summer, the appeal of the beaches of the Cote d’Argent can be overpowering, but luckily for those renting Duras villas, can be reached in under an hour and a half.

Weather in Duras, France

Duras basks in long, hot summers, with daily temperatures of between 25 and 35˚C expected daily from the end of May until mid-September. July and August see daily temperatures in the mid 30’s almost daily, with long, balmy evenings opening up the whole day for entertainment.

Relaxing holiday in the vineyards

5 of 5
My husband and I had a wonderful visit at Kiwi cottage this July. The cottage is very comfortable and had everything we needed. The well appointed kitchen had all of the equipment we needed to cook breakfasts and dinners. We loved coming back to the peaceful cottage after a day of sightseeing. The serene view of vineyards and farms makes this cottage a perfect location base to explore local Bordeaux vineyards or take day trips to Dordogne Valley attractions. Caspian, Lulu, and Jeffery (the chocolate lab) were terrific hosts. We loved all of their recommendations for local markets, restaurants, and boulangerie. My husband wanted to stay another week so he can go to the night food market in Saint Foy again! We are still dreaming about the pastries and breads in the local boulangerie in Montcaret. Thank you, Caspian and Lulu, for a wonderful stay! Send our best to Jeffery.

Peace, relaxation and conviviality

5 of 5
This is a great house, artfully decorated and with pretty much everything you need. The heated pool was most welcome as was the a/c in the house. Loved having the sonos system too, nice touch. Enjoyed the poolside kitchen with gas BBQ and fridge etc. plus the sun-loungers were really comfortable. All well thought through. Loved the area, so beautiful. The location of the house is quiet and peaceful and yet close to amenities. The highlight is Maurice; I was on my own the first three days and my host could not have been better company, a nicer man you could not wish to meet. (We will get to that restaurant one day!). Thank you.
