Found deep in the south of the Rhone Alpes region of eastern France, Drome is a small department with a huge appeal. The Tour de France passes through the department on many stages, taking advantage of the peace and tranquillity of the department, as well as the spectacular scenery. The wild landscapes and isolated villages, especially in the northern part of the department, cannot fail to capture your heart, and the fine wines produced in the area don’t hurt the Drome holiday experience either!

The rural areas of Drome are stunningly beautiful and hugely varied. There are endless walking, cycling and riding routes through the department, allowing visitors to see the rich wildlife of France in its natural habitat. Drome houses France’s largest nature reserve, the Vercors Nature Reserve encompasses regions of forests, rivers and huge limestone overhangs, which is the focus for climbers throughout the year. The countryside is a haven for outdoor activities, from para-gliding and hang gliding to mountain climbing and from cycling to canoeing, and any equipment or advice you may need during your stay in a Drome property is easily available.

The largest medieval building in the world is located within the department, and it really is an impressive sight. Found in the town of Crest, the keep stands 170m high, and for those with good nerves, you can abseil down the face! Throughout the villages and towns of the department you will stumble across a huge number of historical gems, so anyone with an interest in history will be hard to make leave the department at the end of your holiday!

Beautiful, secluded studio near Nyons

5 of 5
My wife and I spent 4 days of our honeymoon here and loved it. The location was perfect; secluded but an easy drive to the vineyards and towns in the Rhone Valley. Ursula and her husband were great hosts. They answered our questions about restaurants, activities and groceries in the area. They were present if we had any questions but gave us our privacy as well. The grounds are beautiful. The smells of the lavender and rosemary flourishing throughout the property is reason enough to give 5 stars! My wife and I spent many hours relaxing by the pool, a necessary feature in the summer heat, or enjoying a glass of wine in the back yard. The studio itself was perfect for the two of us. We were even able to cook a full meal one night. I recommend anyone looking for a more provincial experience in southern France to stay here. And if you have the time, visit the waterfall nearby!

Relaxing, comfortable and a Real Home from Home

5 of 5
We have just returned from a delightful 6 night stay at 'Squirrels'. The owners Jean-Baptiste, his wife Laurie and their wonderful children made us very welcome. The cabin was just what we needed for a relaxing holiday, we were able to explore the region easily from its location to the main routes. A large supermarket and shops were easily accessible by car. A very charming place to stay.
