Make A Holiday Rental Cottage in Douarnenez, France, Your Home Away From Home

Situated in a well sheltered bay, Douarnenez is a coastal town in Brittany, rich in maritime history. Once home to a huge fishing fleet, dozens of canneries made this town their base. As time has moved on, and catches are down, the town has developed into a living heritage site based upon the fishing industry, as well as a summer tourist resort. There are a range of accommodation options on offer here, but the best way to feel a part of the town is to take a holiday rental cottage in Douarnenez. You will feel as though you have stepped into a home-away-from-home from the moment you arrive, and it makes the perfect base from which to explore this part of Brittany.

Lovers of water sports will be particularly thrilled with the amount of activities it is possible to try whilst on holiday in Douarnenez. Take your pick from water skiing, sailing, windsurfing and many more besides. If you prefer to keep dry, then look inland for horseback riding, cycling and golf. The immediate area also has many nature trails that you can wander along.

Each one is worth at least a half day trip, whether it is to visit the marina at Brest, or admire the cathedral at Quimper. If you have access to a car, then it is also recommended that you travel farther afield. Try the megalithic stones of Carnac, or Le Mont St Michel monastery which are both worth a day spent at each.

July and August are both the driest and the warmest months. During the winter, the temperatures can drop to as low as freezing, but more normally average at 9 degrees. A holiday in Douarnenez can be taken at any time of year, but the summer is by far the most popular.

Lovely property and a charming host

5 of 5
The cottage is secluded and has a self-contained garden with lovely views over the ocean. Inside is well equipped and fairly comfortable with all modern conveniences including a strong WiFi signal. François and his family are kind, charming, and helpful hosts. François gave us great advice about local towns, shops, and beautiful beaches that we could visit. The smallest issue or request was resolved or catered for instantly. Our two dogs enjoyed their stay as well and having our own secure garden to relax in was appreciated. We would return to the property with no hesitation.

An excellent place to stay

This is a really lovely house - lots of space and a beautiful garden. And really close to the beach too - close enough to walk back in your towel :-) Jaqueline was very helpful, and did a great job of looking after us. I highly recommend it.
