Make a holiday rental property or villa in Domme, France your home away from home

Domme is a beautiful village in the centre of Dordogne, just 12km from the famous town of Sarlat. High on the official list of the most beautiful villages in France (Les Plus Beaux Villages de France – an official government list!), Domme’s beauty is immediately noticeable. The perfectly preserved walled bastide town is a must see attraction in Perigord Noir, accessed by the fortified gates which helped keep visitors out in days gone by.

Things to do in Domme, France

Simply waking up in a Domme villa is a pleasure in itself. The village is a magnificent place to stay, with stunning views across the countryside, the Dordogne River and the impressive chateaux that decorate the region’s skyline. The village is filled with little shops, cafes and family restaurants, as well as traditional bakeries, which fill the morning air with the irresistible aroma of fresh bread. Under the main square is a wonderful attraction; a large cave, decorated by huge stalactites and stalagmites.

The Dordogne River is a wonderful place to enjoy a sunny afternoon, especially if you can get a canoe. Silently paddling along the river could hardly be any more relaxing, allowing you to get a unique view of the region, far from any other tourist, and perfectly refreshed from the summer heat. Taking to the river is also one of the best ways to see wildlife in the Dordogne. The river also provides a great route to walk, ride or cycle, although you will certainly not want for suitable marked paths to explore from Domme accommodation, as the whole region is covered in a maze of paths and trails.

Places to visit on holiday in Domme, France

Sarlat is just 8 miles from a holiday rental property in Domme, and people travel a lot further than that to gaze at the incredible skyline of the most famous medieval and renaissance town in France. There are marvels at every turn in Sarlat, and although crowds can gather, you have the option to visit in the evening, when the dipping sun casts beautiful orange sunsets as a back drop, which makes the scene even more jaw-dropping, especially as there are far fewer people in the town.

Weather in Domme, France

The weather is always mild in Domme. Temperatures remain pleasant all year round, meaning that you can escape to sightsee or play golf from a Domme villa rental at any time of year, During the summer months, a Domme villa with a pool is almost priceless as daily temperatures regularly reach into the mid 30’s (˚C).

Travel to Domme, France

Bergerac Airport (EGC) is the closest airport to a holiday rental villa in Domme, located within 60km. Ryanair and Flybe both offer a good range of cheap flights to Bergerac, arriving from British Airports from Birmingham (BHX) to Bristol (BRS), Edinburgh (EDI) to Exeter (EXE) and Manchester (MAN) to East Midlands (EMA), so finding a cheap and convenient flight to Domme shouldn’t pose too many problems.

FAB-U-LOUS!!!

5 of 5
Beautiful property and setting. Ariane greeted us and is a lovely lady. The house is extremely well equiped from cuttelry and crockery and towels and bed linen and she also leaves what the previous occupants have left so all basics for the kitchen are there, the follwing property we stayed at removes EVERYTHING and was very stingy with towels and bedding! Fantastic area, lots of places to visit, Chateaus galore (Milandes has a bird of prey show), Grottes galore, can thoroughly recommend kyaking on the Dordogne, my 1st time and felt safe and sound. You wont be disappointed here, we would definitely stay again, Thank you Ariane De Gerard for a fabulous stay!

Charming, quaint cottage on a lovely, peaceful street in the middle of Domme.

The cottage was well presented and very comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped with cooking utensils and crockery. We really enjoyed being able to sit out on the little terrace at the front. Domme itself is quite a busy little tourist attraction with many restaurants and shops and an interesting cave which is well worth a visit. The views from Domme over the Dordogne are fantastic and the bakery in Cenac down the road is a must for bread, croissants and cakes. It is possible to walk to it if you don't mind the climb back up the hill. Linda was extremely helpful before and during our visit, offering lots of information about the area and answering any queries promptly. The bottle of wine on arrival was a lovely touch and most enjoyable too.
