Make a holiday villa in Cuges-les-Pins your home away from home

Cuges-les-Pins villas are among a huge number of centres offered by HomeAway in the Alpes-Maritimes Valleys. Surrounded by the rolling Provencal hills latticed with trails, Cuges-les-Pins holiday rentals are a great base for the outdoorsy visitor keen on hiking and mountain biking. However, the proximity of the coast means beaches can also factor into holiday plans, with some of the most exclusive resorts in the world only a short drive away. For shopping and other facilities, the major French city port of Marseille is about 20 miles to the west. Kids will enjoy a day out at the nearby OK Corral western theme park.

Most accommodation in Cuges-les-Pins has its own pool and barbecue area for al fresco dining, and comes with a fully equipped kitchen for fans of self-catering. Cuges-les-Pins itself has a handful of cafés and restaurants for dining out, with a wider selection in the town of Aubagne about four miles way. Most of the holiday homes in Cuges-les-Pins come equipped with laundry facilities and internet access.

Things to do

Beaches: There are four or five major beaches within ten miles of Cuges-les-Pins accommodation, and several more harder-to-get-to coves. The towns of La Ciotat, Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, Cassis, and Bandol are the towns with the major beaches, all within easy driving range.

Food and drink: The food of the region tends to focus on organic wines, Mediterranean seafood and the famous Provencal produce. There are a few restaurants and cafés in the village, but outside the ring of hills surrounding Cuges-les-Pins are several other villages and towns with a broad selection of dining options, the largest being in Aubagne, about six miles away.

Outdoor pursuits: Walking and biking are two pastimes well catered for by the many miles of trails in the surrounding hills. Of course, the nearby coast is well serviced by marinas and beachfront operators for watersports such as scuba diving and sailing. The southern Alps are also in driving range.

Shopping: The nearest regular market is in Aubagne, operating every day except Monday and Wednesday. Aubagne is also a centre for earthenware crafts, and every two years August sees a large ceramics festival called Argilla, during which craftspeople converge in the town to demonstrate their prowess.

Culture: Aubagne is the headquarters of the French Foreign Legion, so the museum charting the history of this famous fighting unit is located here. The village is also the birthplace of writer Marcel Pagnol, and Le Petit Monde de Marcel Pagnol (The Little World of Marcel Pagnol) celebrates his life.

Weather in Cuges-les-Pins

The climate on the Cote d'Azur is Mediterranean, which means hot summers and mild winters, with most of the little annual rainfall occurring in the autumn. Maximum temperatures in the summer average 28°C, and the low teens in the winters. Thanks to the agreeableness of the weather during the spring, the high season is quite long here.

Travel to Cuges-les-Pins

Nearby Marseille Airport, at 33 miles away, is the closest major hub, but only has a few airlines (British Airways, Ryanair and EasyJet) flying direct from the UK. Nice Cote d'Azur Airport has a much broader selection at 117 miles way, though the south of France is quite driveable in a couple of days from the south of England. The trains are also very efficient from London.

Brilliant

5 of 5
Great location in gated development swimming pool BBQ canopied seating area and big outdoor dining table as well as a balcony on 1st floor. Kitchen is modern, well equipped and laid out. Upstairs the three bedrooms are all big. The whole place has a very modern and high quality finish. Big HDTV with Netflix and a comfortable sofa as well as another large dining table. Overall the layout is so clever that it feels very spacious and comfortable It is situated in a quiet area that is a couple of minutes from a bus stop that links in well to the RTM public transport system. Overall we had a wonderful time and would happily recommend the property to anyone.

Spacious apartment in an excellent location, with a stunning view

5 of 5
We stayed at the apartment for a week and had a fantastic time. The apartment is brilliantly sited in a beautiful building in a quiet compound full of trees, just a few minutes walk to the harbour in one direction, and a lovely little pebbly beach in the other direction. The bedrooms and living room/dining room are all spacious, and the long balcony terrace adds a valuable extra space. The view from the balcony is stunning, we never tired of it. We ate all our meals outside apart from two, when some persistent wasps got too annoying! There was plenty of storage space for luggage and belongings, and the kitchen was well-equipped, if a bit small. The local concierge service looked after us really well, they helped not only with questions about the area, but also sorted us a taxi from the train station. We had only a small quibble with the property and that was the washer/drier which has a dodgy door - we needed help to get it working, and then also discovered that there was no hot air for the drier. Luckily we managed to dry our clothes outside. I think there may have been a communication problem between the owner and the concierge as the concierge was expected 4 adults - in fact we were 3 adults, a child, and a baby. As such I had requested a travel cot and told this was available. This message had not been passed on, and so not enough beds had been made up, or a cot in the location. Fresh linen was immediately produced, though, and a cot offered. So again, impressed with the concierge service. Information on when bins/recycling are collected would be useful. Cassis is a small town, you don't need a car for a short stay.
