a truly rustic holiday home in a beautiful area

4 of 5
Second time to the gite, this time with my adult daughter and we both love it and the area. It's within walking distance of the mediaeval city (tiny) of St Benoit du Sault - one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France, which has essential shops and a supermarket and petrol station. The roads are excellent and empty of traffic and there are many lovely villages and hamlets to explore, all surrounded by beautiful countryside. Also not to be missed are Argenton Sur Creuse, Gargilesse and Montmorillon. The larger town of Chateauroux, and the cities of Poitiers and Limoges are within an easy drive. The gite is basic with comfortable beds and a woodburner, a wonderful garden and a swimming pool, in a very special location. It's definitely not for those with expectations of an immaculate holiday home but we love its simple, rustic charm. Sorry - 4 stars not 5 - because the bathroom needs updating/refreshing.

Comfortable stay in a beautifully restored cottage

5 of 5
Beautifully restored stone cottage with some great little touches by the owners. Set in lovely countryside but easy to find. Three of us stayed for a couple of nights on a whirlwind tour of France. We were made very welcome and the hosts' full English breakfasts set us up nicely for the day. The kitchen facilities were great for self-catering for our other meals. We used the gite as a base to visit the Oradour-sur-Glane massacre village and was ideal for this. Highly recommended!
