  • A lovely, clean and quiet holiday cottage with great views
    5 of 5

Cottage is quiet, clean, well equipped and suitable for travelling with a young baby. The owner provides travel cot, baby bath and high chair. The patio outside has a bbq and is all one level so safe for a toddler. Nearby town of saint Girons has a great market on Saturday mornings. Highly recommend for food shopping. Nearby Castillon has small grocery store and also a bakery, butcher etc. There is an open air swimming pool also. The local restaurant auberge de la core was great but you will need to book a table even at lunch times. The nearby bethmale lake is great for a walk and a picnic. All in all a great holiday if you want to be somewhere quiet with not too many other tourists.

  • Very comfortable, spacious and well-equipped house
    5 of 5

A really comfy and extremely well-equipped house, which worked very well for us as a family of 6 (3 kids, and 3 adults). The owners were friendly and helpful, and did everything they could to make us feel welcome. The beds were very comfortable, and our 2 girls (aged 12 and 9) loved sleeping in the little mezzanine room by the chimney breast. The bathrooms are particularly luxurious, and we appreciated the hot, powerful showers after our days in the mountains. The kitchen had everything you could ask for (and more!) and the second kitchen downstairs was useful too. Unlike some places we have stayed, all the equipment had clearly been recently bought, and everything was in a very good condition. The house is in a very quiet hamlet off the main road south from Seix. It's in a steep valley so doesn't get the evening sun; we ate lunch outside, but it was too chilly in the evenings to use the BBQ. We were quite glad to be somewhere shady after hot days on the high hills! It's not really possible to walk from the door, but there are some brilliant hikes within 45 minutes drive. Cirque de Cagateille was as lovely as everyone says, with a fast flowing river for the kids to paddle in. We did two big walks from Col de Pause, which were exhilarating, and a lovely shady day up the valley of the Estours. All in all we had a wonderful week, and I'd highly recommend the property to anyone looking for a good family holiday in the Ariege.
