Make a holiday rental house or villa in Cotignac, Provence, France your home away from home

Cotignac, Provence is probably most famous for the twin towers which stand guard over the town at the bottom of the dramatic cliffs on which they stand. Situated in the Var department of Provence, Cotignac is a town rife with character and majesty. It is repeatedly touted as the nicest village in Provence, and I am certainly not going to argue with that!

Things to do on holiday in Cotignac, Provence, France

The great rock is one of the most impressive sights of the city, and as the sun moves around the sky, different sections of deep caves, giant ledges and towering stalagmites come into view.

This is a truly unspoilt mediaeval town, littered with some bizarre fountains which still gurgle with clear cool water into the basins below. The narrow twisted streets hide a variety of charming cafes and local, family owned restaurants where you can find authentic local cuisine, prepared with perfection, and all washed down with a choice of the famous wines of Var. If you are staying in a self catering Cotignac villa, be sure to stock up on the excellent olive oil, herbs, honey and excellent, inexpensive local wines for your kitchen. The main square, Cours Gambetta is the best place to find these from your Cotignac villa.

If you are intrigued by large chateaux, museums, monasteries, antiques or traditional French Provencal life, a holiday rental in Cotignac is perfect for your next holiday. Walking and cycling through the meadows and woodland covered hills are beautiful ways to spend a long afternoon in the sun from a Cotignac villa too.

However, the villas of Cotignac also attract those who thrive on adrenaline. There are around 25km worth of testing rock climbing to try, although in mid-summer it can be to hot to tackle. The climbing areas of Les Calanques, and Montagne St Victoire are the most well known, but there are plenty of smaller climbs to get your eye in first.

The Gorges de Verdon at the far end of the lake are particular favourites with climbers too.

The famous seaside resort of St Tropez and the beaches of the Cote d’Azur are only an hour’s drive from a self catering Cotignac villa too.

Travel to Cotignac, Provence, France

There is very little to choose from between Marseille (MRS) and Nice (NCE) airport when it comes to travelling to a holiday rental villa in Cotignac, but due to the slightly better services and better approach to the town, Marseille International Airport is probably the better of the two. easyJet provide cheap flights to Marseille from both London Gatwick (LGW) and Bristol (BRS). Ryanair also fly from Stansted (STN) and Glasgow (GLA).

Lovely villa for a relaxing holiday

5 of 5
A lovely peaceful location with views towards the distant mountains. The villa is very well equipped and comfortable and the pool area is great. You will need a car to get to local shops and restaurants. Nearest villages Cotignac and Entrecasteaux are very pretty and well worth a visit. Night skies at the villa are very dark if you enjoy a bit of star gazing too.

A perfect holiday home

5 of 5
Looking for a place to stay in Cotignac that is central, peaceful, well equipped and beautiful? You won't find better than this. Julie and Jean Claude have furnished their home with comfort and style, from the deep feathered sofas to the Jo Malone room infusers, you will feel pampered and relaxed - this really is a place you will fall in love with. There were eight of us in our party - four adults and four children - and there was room enough for all of us. This was our second trip to Cotignac, a village we discovered last year as it has everything you need for a family holiday - restaurants, bakeries and craft shops within a short stroll, and activities such as kayaking, horse riding, and zip-wiring within a short car journey. Cotignac itself is very pretty, centred around its avenue of plane trees, with bubbling fountains at one end and cafes and restaurants running either side. There's a busy market twice a week selling antiques, crafts and food, and lots of interesting walks up to the caves, the towers, or down to the waterfall. Thank you Julie and Jean Claude - you have a charming and beautiful home and we feel very lucky to have found somewhere so special to stay. Thank you also for being such perfect hosts when we returned for an impromptu visit! You insisted we stayed for lunch which was very kind of you and we are very grateful for your warm welcome back.
