Make a holiday apartment in Corte your home away from home

Enjoying a strategic position at the convergence of two valleys in the heart of Corsica, Corte was once the island’s capital. This status means a feast of history and sites of national importance, and this with the glorious countryside makes the choice of a holiday apartment In Corte an ideal base for really getting to know Corsica. HomeAway has a large selection of holiday apartments in Corte in town centre locations as well as suburban holiday villas and cottages, including some with pools. All are well maintained and well equipped for couples, families or groups to have a comfortable stay in Corte.

Things to do in Corte

Once you get settled in a holiday apartment in Corte, there are plenty of places to go and lots of things to see.

-The citadel dating back to 1419 has an imposing location overlooking the town and is the most popular attraction in Corte. It is reached by following the old streets through the hills. The Citadel is the ideal place to view the surrounding rivers and mountains and is also home to the National Museum of Corsican History.

-Religious monuments are plentiful in Corte, such as the Church of the Annunciation, and like a number of buildings still bear the scars of the wars that have been fought in the area. Built in about 1450 and then rebuilt in the 1600s it is an excellent example of the Corsican ecclesiastical style. Made of stone it is still well used and well visited, and here it is bullet holes from the war of Independence remain. A highlight of the visit is the outstanding pulpit.

-The GR20 hiking route is recognised as one of the most stunning but also most arduous treks in Europe and not for the faint hearted. However, about 30kms south of Corte holiday homes is the village of Vizzavona and from here, there is a one hour walk along the GR20 to the picturesque Cascade des Anglais. You pass through prettye villages en route, each having a bar or restaurant so you can stop for refreshments making the trip far from arduous but well worth it.

-The Restonica River and valley is popular with both bathers and hikers. It can be so relaxing walking along the trail and then cooling sown in the pools and there are two paths allowing beginners to take one and more experienced hikers to take the other. One of the most popular trips will take around 4 hours and involves walking past lakes Capitello and Melo. For experienced walkers there is the journey to Monte Rotondo which is 2,600m and it should be noted when it is not summer the lakes can be frozen.

-The beaches of Corsica are among the most gorgeous in the Mediterranean but, if you’ve opted for a holiday home in Corte you will need to travel some short distances to reach them. Being located in the northern centre of the island, visitors can choose to go west or east, or even north to reach the coast. The size of the island means you’re usually only 30 minutes to an hour away from a beautiful stretch of sand and crystal clear waters.

The Weather in Corte

The weather in Corte is bright and sunny for much of the year and there is an average of 7 hours of sunshine each day – normally 10/12 hours in summer and 4/5 hours during the winter. It does get cloudy and stormy in the mountains, so it is important not to wander away and risk getting lost. May to September stays dry but visitors in March/April and October/November run the risk of some rain.

Getting to Corte

The island’s main airport is at Ajaccio, Corsica’s capital, a 90 minute drive from Corte. Ajaccio is served by a number of UK airports. If you want to make arriving at your holiday apartment in Corte an eventful part of your experience, you can opt for a road trip from the UK, all the way through France and then into Corsica. There are regular ferry services from the South of France into Ajaccio.

Beautiful!

5 of 5
Great location, on the road leading to the Restonica Gorge and a 5 minute walk into Corte. We had amazing views of Corte and the citadel, the accommodation has beautiful gardens and wonderful friendly hosts. The apartment was very clean and has a very comfortable bed and pillows. Thank you so much for the wonderful charcuterie, biscuits and honey, it was so kind of you! X

Fantastic location for a mountain walking holiday

5 of 5
Having read Nathan's and Jonathan's reviews before our trip we can confirm that they are both spot on. Claude is a star host; generous, helpful and very knowledgeable of the area. We really liked the rustic beauty of the area. The garden and sheltered 'outdoor room' have great views. The 'outdoor room' includes cooking facilities and is a perfect place to relax at the end of the day.
