Make a holiday rental home or villa in Conflent, France your home away from home

Conflent, (which roughly corresponds to the region known as the Tet Valley), is a region of the Pyrenees-Orientales department of France. Set between the warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea and the towering peaks of the Pyrenees, Conflent is a beautifully rural area adorned with spectacular geological features and breathtaking views.

Things to do on holiday in Conflent, France

Conflent is a mecca for walkers, hikers and mountain bikers. The undulating foothills of the Pyrenees make the ideal landscape for walking, especially the mythical Mount Canigou, which is supposed to look over the valley and protect it. There are a range of nature reserves here too, protecting some of the more fragile habitats and rarer species of plant and animal. After a hard day exploring the hills, there is nothing nicer than returning down the hill to the spa resorts of either Molitg les Bains or Vernet les Bains.

There is a strong equine heritage in Conflent, and riding holidays to Conflent are some of the most inspirational and taxing riding holidays to be found. Guided rides into the hills take you to picturesque, Romanesque churches and chapels high in the mountains, offering staggering views across France and the Mediterranean.

The geological features which adorn the landscape of Conflent have attracted climbers and pot holers to take self catering Conflent holiday accommodation for many years, and even the most experienced climbers can find extremely satisfying routes. Beginners are also in luck. There are a number of climbing, canyoning and pot holing schools to be found in the towns and villages in the Tet Valley.

Places to holiday in Conflent, France

Prades, the capital of Conflent, is usually the entry point for visitors to the region, as it is easily accessible by train from Perpignan. It is a very attractive town, with all the facilities needed to enjoy a holiday in a Conflent villa to the full. The annual music festival held in the Abbey of St-Michel-de-Cuxa is the highlight of the year in Prades.

A Conflent holiday rental in Vernet Les Bains is ideal for three reasons; its ideal position for hill walking below the peak of Mount Canigou, the vast geological museum and the great casino. Hill walkers and mountain climbers will be especially at home in Vernet Les Bains, as the village is not only perfectly positioned, but also provides all the services, shops and guides you could wish for.

Villefranche de Conflent is a real attraction for tourists, being a stunning fortified town high in the mountains. The famous Petit Train Jaune (little yellow train), is a great way to explore the mountains when you first arrive in a holiday rental in Conflent, but you need a bit of a head for heights! Estroher is possibly the most scenic village, high in the Pyrenees. The village has a charm driven by its medieval origins, yet there is still a distinct Mediterranean feel.

Weather in Conflent, France

Being high in the mountains, Confent’s climate is fairly hard to predict, but in general, summer temperatures average around 26°C, with peaks reaching into the mid 30’s. In winter, the skiing resorts of the Pyrenees are within striking distance, and temperatures are much cooler, often dipping below freezing.

Travel to Conflent, France

Despite being a rural, seemingly inaccessible area, Conflent is surrounded by three airports and remarkable easy to reach. Perpignan Airport (PGF) is the closest to many of the holiday rentals in Conflent, and there are frequent trains to Prades. Alternatively, renting a car from the airport will mean that you can reach your holiday accommodation in no time.

Very good

4 of 5
A very well equipped apartment, contained everything a traveller would require, all those things you wonder whether to bring / buy - they are there. Wonderful sun terrace with great views over gardens and wooded hillsides, with Canigou in the distance. Liz, the local contact, was a wonderful help. Well placed within the old part of town, handy for all shops and restaurants etc if required, but equally well placed for the numerous interesting walks / hikes. No parking outside but close proximity to large public (free) car parking. Packed full of interesting information on things to do, maps, guide books, good internet connection. Tastefully furnished, wonderful spacious kitchen. A little bit hot at the end of August for northern Europeans, but the bedroom fans helped and the footers at the end of the beds were restrictive for very tall people (I am), but those were my only pretty minor grumbles. Sensible guidance over any breakages - try to replace with similar please. Pretty good value for money. This is a great apartment and Ceret is a wonderful town in a magnificent part of southern France and hence thoroughly recommended.
