The property was clean comfortable and well equipped and ideally located for exploring Nimes by foot. Close to historic monuments and museums and galleries. In easy reach of a variety of good restaurants. Would advise taking advantage of the secure parking that is 2 minutes walk, parking on the street is expensive, and the streets in this area are narrow. There are supermarkets and Boulangeries within easy walking distance.
Owners are very friendly and helpful. Lots of information in the accommodation but the tourist office adjacent to Les Arenes is worth an early visit. Avignon well worth the effort 40 mins drive. Visit to Carmargue National Park needs planning in advance and research on best way of seeing wildlife. Aigues Morte interesting historically but very 'tourist' orientated and in August very busy. Le Grau du Roi very busy seaside town large selection of nice fish restaurants but very crowded and noisy; definitely a seaside resort. We see there from 11 - 18 August which is an exceptionally busy time in this region.
We loved staying here: Sylvain and Carine were perfect hosts, from leaving some essentials in the fridge when we arrived (including Carine's delicious home made jam) to inviting us for a drink once we had settled in. They speak excellent english, and gave us lots of good advice on places to go - there is so much to do in the area, starting with Vers-Pont-du-Gard which is a beautiful historic village. You can buy bread and pastries at the boulangerie which is a few steps away. We enjoyed the local food markets, kayaking, jumping off the rocks into the river, visiting the Pont du Gard and the Roman amphitheatre at Arles. We spent a couple of days just doing nothing, because the gite was such a lovely place to be.
The barn is beautifully decorated and very well equipped. We had a battery operated nightlight with us which we hung on the stair rail, but otherwise found the stairs absolutely fine. We stayed with our 8 year old son and he didn't mention being bored once.
