  • A hidden jewel in the rural heartlands of France

With a storm brewing we pulled into the courtyard at Les Jacquets on a dark afternoon. We thought that we had discovered Cold Comfort Farm. On entering the house we were totally surprised. A beautiful kitchen just as one would imagine to find in a Beaujolais farmhouse, fully equipped for cooking, eating and drinking. Views across the wide landscape to the hills beyond to be enjoyed from the window above the sink and outside of the backdoor are Rosemary, Fennel and other herbs. Moving into the sitting room we found a cosy room that shared an open log fire with the kitchen; plenty of logs in the adjacent barn if required. The house also had central heating so we didn’t actually need to light the fire. There is a beautiful bathroom downstairs and an even more beautiful bathroom upstairs that services two large and airy bedrooms, that also enjoy the view across the fields. A short drive into Monsols and a fine drive to La Clayette (not to be missed). There are good walks to be had all around and especially from the Col de Crie. The owners were extremely helpful and just a telephone call away. We cannot praise Les Jacquets high enough and would recommend it to anyone who would wish to have a very ‘French’ experience.

If you would like a wonderful holiday in absolute peace and quiet in a cottage which is immaculately clean and lacks for nothing, don't hesitate! Book now! We have just returned from 10 days at Les Pins and enjoyed every minute of it. The photos can't do justice to the property which has great outdoor areas as well as comfortable interior living areas if the weather happens to be slightly inclement. We aren't bird watchers as such, but enjoyed the masses of bird life around the property including lots of woodpeckers, owls and we even saw four hoopoe in the garden one day which was a real treat. The surrounding area has masses of sign posted walks and the local towns and villages surprise you with their chateaux and ancient churches. One of the best properties for simple living and peace and quiet that we have visited over many years of travelling to France.
