We absolutely loved Chatellailon Plage. We stayed for a week in July/August this year and it was HOT. The residential park is a lazy ten-minute walk from the beach, the shops and market. My daughter loved the swimming pool, even though it wasn't heated, and she had it to herself a lot of the time. The house was comfortable and had all the equipment we needed to be able to self-cater. We made full use of the bikes in the garage - it was great to be able to cycle to the beach or beyond. Madame next door went through our inventory and told us about a smell coming up from the sink. We did not let that spoil our stay as we were either sunbathing on the patio or at the beach and out and about a lot of the time. There were no problems with checking out and our deposit was returned when we left. Communication with the owners beforehand to arrange the holiday was straightforward and prompt.
Chatellailon Plage itself is a delight, with lots of shops, restaurants, places to walk and cycle. Lots of French families on holiday and we heard English spoken once by a British family the whole time we were there. Definitely have a go at trying out your French - the people are very friendly and patient. I found that they appreciated my efforts. There is lots of space on the beach and we didn't find it overly crowded. We didn't really care about the mud when the tide went out that some have complained of on review pages because when we got in the sea (which was way warmer than we had expected) we found the texture of the mud to be extremely smooth and it left our skin feeling lovely. La Rochelle is nearby - we went there for the day and it is beautiful. The only reason for us not returning to Chatellailon Plage is because France is huge and there is lots more to discover, but if you have not been there before then I would say go. You will not be disappointed.
Thank you Francois for a lovely couple of weeks at your house in Chatelaillon-Plage.
The house is well positioned, and a short distance from a delightful town, which we found great pleasure walking around throughout our stay. We loved the garden, as did our dog, with plenty of places to sit either in the sun or shade, and the fig tree at the bottom of the garden provided plenty of delicious fruit for breakfast.
With La Rochelle a short drive away, and plenty of other interesting places to visit within easy distance, we look forward to returning next year.
