We spent a tranquil week in ' Le Petit Gite ' in the spectacular Gorge du Tarn. The scenery at Prades and in the gorge itself is breathtaking.
The Gite was just as described in the details. Small, but well equipped. The Summer bathroom adjacent to the front door was fine and not an issue. We enjoyed exploring the Gorge and villages during the day and returning to the Gite to relax in the pretty garden or swim in the River Tarn which was just fifty yards away. It was great to have use of the canoe to cross the river and then walk upstream along the river bank to Catelbouc, where we enjoyed a lunch at a restaurant specialising in Pizzas.
Tessa and Geoff were so friendly and helpful and we felt very welcome - they even invited us to join them to watch the England v Columbia World Cup match! Their local knowledge also helped us to make the most of the time we had there. The evening swim with the Beavers was magical and an experience I will never forget.
Oscar and Django deserve a mention. They were very friendly, charming dogs who kept us company in the garden.
A very enjoyable holiday in a little Gite that is good value for money. We hope to return one day.
The house was in a very pleasant rural village on the edge of some very fine walking country above Mende. The accommodation was well equipped and fine for us two, but may be a little cramped downstairs for four. The owner appeared every day to feed his animals but was in no way obtrusive. There was an enclosed area outside for eating protected from any wind and sun.
Mende is a very pleasant and interesting town with easy parking and all necessary facilities. The country side around varied spectacularly and was in easy reach of the Tarn George, the Cevenne and many interesting towns and villages.
We would be very happy to stay there again.
