Perigueux, the main town to the south, is a fine example of a French medieval town, with many fascinating buildings, such as the Mataguerre Tower, and the St Front Cathedral. This town is also the home of paté de foie gras and the restaurants in the town's little squares are a great place to try this delicacy. Close to the capital, Nontron, are several lovely chateaux, such as at Varaignes and the Chateau de Puyguilhem.

In the summer there is plenty of sunshine, with only occasional heavy rain showers; the temperature ranges from 25 to 30°C. In the winter the daytime temperature can go down to 5°C, and frost and snow are not unknown. But the skies here are known for being blue, clear and bright at any time of year and you'll rarely have to deal with drab.

Travel to Champagne et Fontaine, France

Fantastic holiday Gite

5 of 5
We had a wonderful two week holiday at Les Volet. Steve and Sarah were great hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them. They even provided transport to and from a local restaurant on our wedding anniversary !!!! The Gite is very comfortable with everything you would require to make your holiday special. We are in the process of booking again for next year and we would not hesitate in recommending Les Volet to others.

The property exceeded our expectations. It is a gorgeous little hidden gem with a private pool.

5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with our 6 month old son and two dogs. The property exceeded our expectations from photographs and the private pool was a fantastic bonus. Dave and Wendy provided us with everything we could have wished for for our holiday (including making sure we were ok during a thunderstorm!) The views from the property are phenomenal and we thoroughly enjoyed spending many nights watching the sun set with a cold beer in hand. The property is well located for exploring this part of France, but is also a fantastic place to spend a day just chilling out by the pool. The dogs appreciated the cool space of the downstairs during the day if the weather got too hot. Dave and Wendy were incredibly friendly and always happy to help if we needed it.
