Things to do in Capestang, France

There is a huge amount to see and do in Capestang itself. The unfinished Eglise Saint Etienne dominates the skyline, and must be seen. The interior of the cathedral is also worth further exploration. On a Wednesday and Sunday, the normally quiet streets of Capestang spring into life with weekly markets, which have stalls selling everything from antiques to local food (wine, olives and oysters are especially good here), wonderfully fresh and perfect if you are wishing to try your hand at cooking local delicacies in your self catering Capestang property. There is always something to watch along the Canal du Midi, which has been listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The vineyards of the area often provide wine tasting lessons and vineyard tours, allowing visitors to sample the finest local wines and enjoy a little knowledge about their food’s accompaniment.

The Pyrenees are a magnet for those who love the great outdoors. Some of the most spectacular walking and riding trails in France cut through the mountain passes, deep gullies and open plains of Herault, and you could not be better placed to take advantage of the walking than from a Capestang apartment. Climbing and paragliding holidays also thrive, and for those who need a little tuition, help is at hand.

We absolutely loved our week at this property in Capestang and quite fell in love with the apartment, the village and indeed the whole area. The owners had thought of absolutely everything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We spent a week here in early April and enjoyed visiting the Mediterranean coast, the historic nearby towns and cities, the delightful hilly countryside to the north west and indeed the village itself which is full of interesting and beautiful buildings. Busy markets on Sunday and Wednesday supplied us with all our cooking needs. When we weren't cooking at the apartment we ate locally at various village restaurants, all very good indeed. To compensate for the amazing good food we ate, we took long walks along the canal - never a dull moment watching the birds and the boats! and also thought about (but ran out of time to!) hiring bicycles from the village letting shop. So much to do here, even 'out of season' and would not hesitate to recommend this property and the location to anyone. A return visit for us is a must. R & B, Lincolnshire
