Location! Location! Location!

5 of 5
Our 10 day stay in Casa Carlotta, in spite of the windy, rainy, cold weather , was wonderful! Even though there was a lot of construction going on in front, it made no difference. We enjoyed watching the day to day progress of the plaza being repaved with stone and the fixed awning installed over the restaurants. Two were just beneath our balcony. The view of the rade, St. Jean & Cap Ferrat and the lighthouse on the point was always fascinating to see. We could even see the Villa Rothchild just across from us! We watched cruise ships and their ferried passengers come and go. A patisserie was only steps away, so each morning I took my 2 euro coin and bought 2 croissants while Bill made coffee. A routine we grew to love! The Citadel with three museums, MANY restaurants and the Chapel decorated by Jean Cocteau were VERY close by. The Old Ville was such fun to explore - always a surprise restaurant around a corner. We had SO many choices - even Vietnamese! And we finally stumbled upon the Rue Obscura - but never figured out its purpose! An arduous climb to the tourist bureau and bus stops set us to panting, but we're in our late 70's so no surprise there! The buses, which cost 1.5 euro, ran into Nice and all the way to Menton on the Italian border in the other direction, making sight seeing easy and very affordable! Just a bus ride out and back could be a simple and cheap pleasure! And the apartment!!! We could not stop ourselves from staring out the two double doors to the balcony - even with the wind and rain! All of our expectations for a stay in Villefranche were met, and we plan to go back again. We cannot imagine staying in any other apartment!
