On top of the layered light of the Lot valley

5 of 5
We had a fantastic stay at the Hayloft, one of the our best holidays in France and there have been a few. Brian and Glynis were perfect hosts; there when you wanted them, invisible otherwise. With a little encouragement Brian has lots of little stories about the area and suggestions about what to take in, but only if you ask. The gite was lovely and cool when the temperatures got up. The living room and kitchen were very comfortable, with almost every thing we wanted (great response to a couple of requests), outstanding bathroom and very good beds with good linen. The double in the main bedroom is larger than a UK double. The pool was superb, outstanding views up and down the valley, with different areas to sit depending on whether we wanted more or less sun. Lovely garden, everything beautifully maintained. Good loungers with cushions by the pool and good umbrella cover, could not have been better. Loved the little covered arbour a few steps up from the pool for lunch. Granted courtesy use of a nearby fridge for booze and our cheese stash. AMAZING local cheeses in the markets, from both Aveyron and the Cantal. If you like pink wine don't miss a local rose- Marcillac Blush from Vignerons du Vallons available from the superb butcher in St Cyprien though Marcillac is well worth a visit for some shopping and lunch. Hope to buy a case next time! Brian may have more suggestions, good wine shop in Entragues as well. There are places to go within a half hour drive though it took us a few days to get used to the roads along the river and into the hills. Excellent local gallery at Le Don du Fel of you like ceramic art (not just talking pottery here-international ceramic sculpture), and the Galerie Pierre Soulages in Rodez, outstanding for those interested in contemporary art. Conques very beautiful, very ancient, countryside stunning.Great walking, long or short right out the door. Hope to have some canoe lessons so we can take advantage of the local centre about 15 minutes up the road. Loved the mornings watching the mist rise up from the valley, sunrises and sunsets. Local villages very enjoyable for shopping and some lunch. Spent lots of time just relaxing, hope to go back next year for more, to visit more of the local villages....just more! Nancy and Peter

Value for money

4 of 5
The house is in a quiet suburb near Vic and a good walk from the boulangerie. I would say that 6 plus 2 in the bunk beds is pushing it for shared inside space. Also only one bathroom and a separate toilet. And we were surprised not to have towels provided. Realistically you have to hope for good weather so you can all be outside as the lounge/diner cannot sustain so many people. Kitchen is well equipped but cracked and chipped crockery needs replacing. Also no oven gloves or oven tray. These can be easily sorted. We could only find five cushions for the garden chairs. The beds were comfy and we all slept very well. All in all we enjoyed our stay. This house represents value for money.
