Information about Nimes, France and the surrounding La Camargue region is easily available due to the incredible number of attractions Nimes has to offer. This is an area of unrivalled historical heritage, offering visitors the chance to explore some of the most sensational, attractive and impressive historic towns in Europe. The natural scenery is no less impressive, drawing nature lovers and those with a passion for the great outdoors to the luxury holiday rentals in the area from acrossEuropeand further afield.

Things to do in Nimes – Camargue, France

The historic towns of Nimes and Aigues-Mortes are the finest examples of their kind anywhere inEuropethe Roman attractions of Nimes and the medieval heart of Aigues-Mortes are absolutely sensational, appearing almost like purpose-build historical theme parks. Nimes is home to the most extensive Roman findings anywhere, and once inside the thick, protective walls that surround Aigues-Mortes, it takes very little imagination to see yourself back in medieval times.

Amazingly, it is the massive Camargue Regional Park that really draws the plaudits in the region. UNESCO has listed the park on the World Heritage List due to its unique ecological conditions. The park consists of over 350,000 acres of salt marshes and wetlands and is home to a vast range of animal and plant species. The Camargue horses are among the most famous residents of the park, but there are many, many animals to see whilst taking advantage of the endless miles of walking, horse riding and cycling paths that cross the park, making its treasures accessible to visitors.

There are a great range of beaches for those who simply wish to relax in the sun after a few days of sightseeing and nature watching. The beaches along the coastline of La Camargue can be hard to reach in places, keeping crowds at bay and retaining the wonderfully natural atmosphere. The water here is clear and warm, allowing fantastic beach holidays to be taken from early May right through until late September.

Places to visit on holiday in Nimes – Camargue, France

Nimes itself is one of the most impressive Roman centres in the whole of the region, if not the whole of Europe. Famous for the astonishingly extensive Roman ruins, Nimes has been attracting open-mouthed visitors from each corner of the globe, but it is the bustling modern atmosphere and wonderful pace of life that brings people flocking back to Nimes properties year after year. Nimes’ attractions seem completely endless, and information about Nimes, France including the best walking routes and sightseeing trails is readily available from any Camargue tourism information centre.

Aigues-Mortes is another astonishing location in the La Camargue region, but completely different to Nimes. Dating back to medieval times, Aigues-Mortes is a magnificent walled town, surrounded by salt water marshes. The town has remained incredibly true to its roots, and visitors could easily be forgiven for thinking that they had taken a huge step back in time, not just a short flight in reaching Aigues-Mortes.

Those looking for a little seaside romance among the amazing historical treasures of the Nimes-Camargue region of France will be delighted by the opportunity to take a holiday rental in the small seaside resort of Le-Grau-du-Roi. Standing on usually quiet beaches, and with excellent access (by foot) to Aigues-Mortes, taking a Camargue holiday rental really does give you access to all that is best in the area.

Great house in a great lovation

5 of 5
We had a fabulous 2 weeks in Peter and Jane's house. It was ideally located for boating, cycling and only a short drive to the beaches. Everything we needed was in the house and it felt very homely rather than just a holiday let. We enjoyed breakfast and barbecues on the terrace, and the local wine on the roof terrace in the evenings. It was so peaceful but loved watching the boats, ducks and fish go by. The pool was only a 2 minute walk from the house and never too busy. There were only ever 2/3 other families there. The short walk (10 mins) or cycle into Aigues Mortes along the canal was very pleasant. There are lots of places to visit and sites to see in the area and suited all ages. We look forward to returning again.

Beautiful home away from home!

5 of 5
We had an amazing stay at this beautiful property. It was decorated very tastefully, and equipped with everything you might need. The tower was charming and the cabana was very comfortable. The pool was lovely and we loved reading and socialising in the shady areas around the tower. We were a group of 5 teenagers and 4 adults. The area was great for lots of activities and we enjoyed lots of day out. Our host deserve special note as the were the kindest, most helpful hosts I have ever had at a gite! (15th visit to France!) Nothing was too much to ask, and we felt like friends when we left! I definitely hope to be back soon!!!!
