  • Very pretty setting, lovely cottage.

With three young children of 3,5 & 7 years of age, a week of relaxation and calm was very much in order. Having got back yesterday, I can genuinely claim to feel relaxed and refreshed! Carl and Belinda are the perfect hosts and are always there for advice and information on local things to do and see for the kids and the grown ups. Beech cottage has everything in place for you not to have to worry about anything. The kids loved the 30 acres of grounds and we didnt feel we had to be on top of them at all times which meant they had a fab time exploring and mum and dad could kick back just a little! Choupette the pig was a big attraction, especially for our 3 yr old who loved feeding her approved food scraps every day. Not forgetting the heated pool, that was religiously maintained by Carl and Belinda every day and was a huge draw for the kids. For me, however, the rural location, with zero noise and light pollution, was the icing on the cake. It really did feel like we were escaping from the rat race and disappearing from the world for a week . The local roads were an absolute dream to drive along and utterly devoid of traffic. So, whilst remote, nowhere felt too far to travel. Tip: nearby bakery makes croissants to die for. For anyone looking to have a calm, relaxing break from the madness of the busy British lives we live, you could do far worse than booking one of these cottages. Thank you Carl and Belinda, we have returned relaxed and refreshed and talking already about our next visit - surely the biggest recommendation I can give?! Best regards Chris & Lynsey

  • A stunning stone cottage in the middle of beautiful, peaceful surroundings.

I stayed in Mulberry cottage from 22nd July to August 4th with my husband and 16 year old son and we were very sad to leave. I especially miss the sunny corner in front of the cottage where I often sat with a book and a coffee first thing in the morning waiting for everyone else to wake up! The cottage has real rustic charm, is spacious and well kitted out with everything you might need during your stay. The large open plan lounge/ diner was a cool retreat when the weather was hot but also quite cosy on the couple of days we had rain. Huge TV receives basic English channels and wifi coverage is restricted to receiving emails and limited internet use - good news for parents trying to get teenagers to embrace the outdoors instead of being surgically attached to technology! Local supermarkets a few miles away make it easy to self cater but equally there are many lovely restaurants a short distance away. Carl and Belinda are friendly and helpful and any problems are attended to straight away. They look after the grounds and cottages really well and it is funny to watch them going down to feed the pig and chickens in the evening followed by their 2 dogs and 2 cats! We took our own bikes and enjoyed cycling along the river Blavet from Pontivy to St Nicolas des eaux where we had lunch. Carl advised us on the best routes to take and he provides a drop off and pick up service and bike hire if needed. We had lovely days out but some places are a good hour away by car. Hennebont has a lively market on a thurday morning but get there early so you can park nearer to the town. Josselin is very interesting, although you can't go round the castle without an English guide at a specific time and we felt the doll museum was over-rated. Saint Cado on the south coast is stunning, a beautiful bay and island you can walk to across a stone bridge, with chocolate box houses, gift shops, and a tranquil little chapel to visit. We also went kayaking on lac de guerledan (5 euros per hour) and stopped off at Abbaye de bon repose on the way back. Although we found the location of the cottage ideal for exploring south Brittany, we were equally happy to relax in the grounds, walking through the woods and to the nearby villages and the swimming pool is as blue and clean as the photographs suggest (with a lot of hard work from Carl). This little hamlet is a relaxing haven in the middle of a beautiful part of France. Thankyou Carl and Belinda, we hope to return one day!
