Make a holiday rental, home, or cottage in Cajarc, France your home away from home

Cajarc is yet another one of the tourist gems hidden in the Lot department of the Midi-Pyrénées region of southern France. This town is laden with history; it was one of the stops along a medieval pilgrimage route and has a medieval town centre. Visitors will also get the chance to immerse themselves in local culture as they interact with locals at social spots and cultural events. Cajarc is also bursting with natural beauty and is close to other equally picturesque locales. For their holiday home visitors can choose to stay in charming stone cottages or other kinds of houses depending on their budget and preference.

Things to do on holiday to Cajarc, France

This town is found at the heart of the Lot Valley and boasts a breathtaking view of the Lot River snaking its way through the Regional Natural Park. To make matters even prettier, on the edge of the town there is a row of medieval houses on the edge of the river and a 19th century stone bridge. The waters of the river allow for a number of outdoor activities including boating. The town itself is worth touring if only to see the 12th and 15th century structures it hosts. Summer visitors who remain to the end of July will have the chance to participate in the popular Africajarc event. This is a colourful four-day celebration of African music and culture which must not be missed.

Places to visit on holiday to Cajarc, France

One of the locales classified as one of France’s ‘most beautiful villages’ lies just 14km away from Cajarc. This is the village of Saint Cirq Lapopie and, positioned 80m above Lot River, visitors won’t get a better place in France from which to capture the beauty of the river. Add to this the prehistoric caves of Pech-Merle and nature lovers will have enough to keep them engaged for hours. But apart from natural beauty, there are the unique townscapes provided by this town’s unique buildings and narrow, cobbled streets. And in the midst of this picturesque scene are medieval buildings including a 15th century church and a couple of chateaus.

Weather in Cajarc, France

The weather in Cajarc, like the rest of the Midi-Pyrénées region, is rather warm as compared to other parts of France. Winters here are remarkably mild with temperatures starting at around 13°C in November and remaining above 10°C for the most part, even in the chilliest weeks of January. In summer it doesn’t get uncomfortably hot as average highs hover between 25 and 28°C; optimal hiking and biking conditions. Rainfall, though not abundant, is more or less evenly distributed in Cajarc.

One of the closest international airports to this town is the Toulouse-Blagnac Airport which straddles the two towns. A number of domestic airlines ferry passengers there from different locations in France but a good portion of the traffic this facility handles is from European cities such as London, Brussels, Rome and Madrid. Flights from North African cities such as Tunis and Marrakech also land in this airport.

The Lot is Amazing

5 of 5
The house was brilliant. Just what we wanted. Safe for the children, a safe pool, comfortable property and welcoming owner, Rose. The terrace was the perfect breakfast and evening location. Quiet too. Just the occasional hang-glider drifting past on the thermals. A wonderful holiday!

We had a really fabulous holiday in Gaillac at Caroline’s homely Gite.

5 of 5
We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful unspoilt region of France. Sitting looking at the views from the terrace was one of the many highlights of our stay. The garden a wonderful cool oasis from the heatwave that was with us for the whole two weeks. Dogs enjoyed there holiday too and made friends with Elliot and Bunty, Caroline’s sweet little dogs. We will be back!!
