Make a holiday rental apartment or villa in Caixas, France your home away from home

Caixas is a perfectly sleepy village in the heart of the Languedoc-Rousillon region of southern France. Located in the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains, a holiday rental in Caixas offers breath taking views into the hills and all the way down to the waters of the Mediterranean, and a way of life which is so delightfully slow that you may have trouble readjusting when you return home!

Things to do in Caixas, France

The villages excellent location, coupled with the cosy luxury of Caixas’ holiday homes have made it the perfect base for those wishing to head into the mountains, whether on foot, on mountain bike or from the saddle. There are so many walking and riding trails through this region of the Pyrenees, ranging from easy afternoon strolls to long ranging rocky roads which need a little mountaineering know-how to conquer. Whether you wish to walk, ride or cycle through the Pyrenees, a self catering Caixas villa is the ideal base from which to start your exploration.

However, for many visiting Caixas accommodation on holiday, it is the beaches of the Mediterranean coast that provide the largest attraction. There are a great range of beaches, all covered in fine, golden sand, from the wide expanses of the tourist beaches of Collioure and St Cyprien to the fantastic little cove beaches which hide among the rocky headlands. Whatever your taste in beaches, you will very quickly discover an idyllic spot to relax in the sun.

Caixas is a perfect place from which to submerge yourself in culture. The strong Catalan influences in this region of southern France are undeniable, and food lovers will be absolutely in their element in self catering Caixas accommodation. There are many excellent, family run restaurants in the area, and for those wishing to try their hand at a little local cuisine, then the markets of Ceret and Thuir will be of great interest.

Places to visit on holiday to Caixas, France

After a long day of walking in the Pyrenees, the thermal baths in nearby St Thomas Les Bains will be of huge appeal. The thermal baths are an absolute treat to visit, especially if you have aching joints to relieve. There are also a great range of medieval fortified towns to visit from Caixas accommodation. The town of Villefranche de Conflent is particularly impressive, and well worth the trip from a Caixas property.

Weather in Caixas, France

Caixas enjoys a fantastically warm Mediterranean climate in which summers are long and hot and winters are brief but mild. The beaches are a great asset from May until as late as November, during which time daily temperatures soar into the mid 30’s (˚C) most days.

Travel to Caixas, France

The nearest airport to a holiday rental villa in Caixas is Perpignan (PGF). Although Perpignan is not a large airport, both Flybe and Ryanair provide direct flights from the UK, leaving from Southampton (SOU), Birmingham (BHX) and London Stansted (STN). Arranging the use of a hire car is strongly advised when visiting a villa in Caixas, as the highly rural nature of the region means reaching the many attractions locally is made endlessly easier by the use of a car.

Large well equiped villa in a perfect location to explore the Pyrenee's.

4 of 5
We enjoyed our stay in this lovingly renovated villa with it's various seating area's to avoid the heat of the sun.The 2 five star attractions of this villa are the kitchen/balcony area and the pool so a direct connection between the two via a small additional staircase would make this property just about perfect. Many thanks to Angela for her prompt reply's to my questions.

Lovely villa in beautiful surroundings

5 of 5
This is the perfect place to get away from it all - quiet and private with stunning views of the surrounding hills. Very well equipped villa with a light and airy feel. Good facilities - heated pool, covered terrace so you can eat al fresco even when it's raining, TV, reliable internet, modern kitchen. The delightful owners, Adrian and Pauline, are on hand if you need anything, but otherwise just let you get on and enjoy your holiday. Lots to see and do in the area, whether you're a walker, history buff, wine enthusiast or culture vulture. Nice beaches are not too far away either. We couldn't ask for more and really enjoyed our week-long stay.
