  • Practical base with pleasant terrace

After a surprising start when Alexandre had to take us to a different property while waiting for previous clients to check out of this one, we eventually got here about 6:30 pm. Well-modernised and well-equipped flat in uninspired neighbourhood, without attractive bars or cafes nearby, although handy mini-marts and patisserie in walking distance. Double bed against the wall, so I decided to use the sofa bed rather than scramble in and out around my wife - a bit undignified in my 70s! Sofa bed really only OK as single bed (imho). Small corner shower a bit of a let down, unless you like wrestling with a wet shower curtain! City transport excellent, with metro, trams and buses including the 83 round the coast and 60 up to Notre Dame de la Garde. Mixed success with meals in various street cafe/restaurants, but all with pleasant ambience. Sadly 60 mph winds one day meant we could not do planned boat trip to the Calanques, one of our reasons for visiting Marseille. But blue skies and warm sunshine always appreciated at this time of year. And thanks to Alexandre for ferrying us to and from the station (and his other apartment).

We were made to feel very welcome by Jerome and his wife. The kitchen was extremely well equipped and a generous supply of dishwasher tablets etc for our stay. A lot of thought had gone into the design of the apartment and it is a lovely place to stay.
