Make a holiday villa in Bras your home away from home

HomeAway brings you the best villas in Bras, where you get the rural beauty and culture of Provence, but none of the crowds. Holiday homes in Bras are an enticing blend of the old and new - your rental will be a restored farmhouse or rural home, built from stone, with traditional tiles, wooden shutters, and cool interiors featuring wooden beams and tasteful furnishings. Despite the rustic character, 21st Century conveniences are never overlooked at Bras holiday homes. Most kitchens are equipped with dishwashers, many rentals have wi-fi connections, and private pools provide a dose of modern luxury.

Things to do

-Local sights. The local town of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume has a collection of well looked after buildings dating back to the 1300s. There’s a Jewish quarter here, as well as a stunning basilica that was never finished, despite three centuries of construction between the 1200s and 1500s. In the crypt is a shrine and sarcophagus belonging to Mary Magdalene who is said to have come to the town after the crucifixion.

-Watersports. When it heats up in summer you needn’t travel all the way to the coast for a dip or paddle. One beautiful spot is at the Vallon Sourn, which is a popular site for climbers thanks to the high canyon walls. The river here is clear and slow, lovely for swimming. Kayaking is also available on the rivers in the area – in Entrecasteaux there’s a company arranging special trips along the Argens River.

-Rural activities. Bras is in a part of Provence that is loved for its hills, rivers, forest and general greenery. Two circular walking trails start in the village of Bras – you could stroll through the pine-clad Défens hills to the east, or walk north to the Tombereau waterfall via a gentle eight-kilometre trail. There are also lots of mountain biking tracks and bike parks, three equestrian centres and two golf courses nearby, so there’s something for all the family.

-Markets and cuisine. A Provence institution, town and village markets are where you’ll get to see and buy the best local produce. In Bras there’s a fruit and veg market at Place du 14 Juillet on Wednesday mornings, while on Saturday mornings you can purchase fresh fish, and on Sundays you’ll find local cheese as well as spices and other regional specialities of Provence.

-Coast. There’s sun, sand and lots of sightseeing on the coast. You could use the A52 to get down to Cassis and its six beautiful sheltered beaches. Plage de la Grand Mer has a small arc of sand with wild, craggy cliffs that stretch out into the distance to the east. Cassis is also at the eastern edge of the Calanques, an arresting coastline of fjords, promontories and cliffs that can be seen from the land via walking trails, or by embarking on a boat cruise from the resorts nearby.

Weather in Bras

Bras has Mediterranean weather, with typically long and hot summers. If you get to a Bras holiday rental in the period from May to October then it’s best to pack for sunny conditions and dress for temperatures that can soar above 30 degrees during heat-waves. Winters are moderately cool, with lots of sunny days and highs of ten degrees or so. Damper weather comes in the mild spring and autumn seasons. October particularly is known for its sudden and violent storms.

Travel to Bras

Holidaymakers flying to their villa in Bras could use a couple of airports in the region. South, about an hour from the village, is Toulon-Hyères Airport (TLN), handling a few, mostly summertime routes from the UK. A little further away, and located west of Bras is Marseille Provence (MRS). The journey by road is a little shorter because you can use the A7 and A8 autoroutes to get there, exiting for Bras at junction 34. In all it should take around 45 minutes to reach the village from this airport.

Excellent play to stay

5 of 5
A very nice and comfortable vacation home. Spacious, quiet, well furnished, charming. More than large enough to accommodate nine persons with a.o. four bathrooms. Located close to Villecroze, a non-touristic authentic village. Nearby very interesting middle aged caves to visit located in a cute little park. Further away you can enjoy the impressive nature of Europe’s largest canyon, the Gorges-du-Verdon. Or you go to the mundane coast around Nice with places like Monte Carlo/Monaco, Cannes and Saint Tropez. Like to stay at home: you can enjoy the swimming pool, the sun terrace or explore the many plant species in the garden and enjoy the fruits of the season. Spend your vacation here and be surprised!

Peaceful, charming, just perfect!

5 of 5
We were traveling through the South of France with friends and this villa was perfect. It is very charming, comfortable, roomy and well equipped. The pool was perfect summer fun for our kids and it also has beautiful shade under the trees for quiet time or naps. The patio is perfect for true provence breakfasts and dinners. We went to the nearby bakery every morning to get fresh baguette, croissants and other delicious treats. There are oh so many charming nearby villages around this location to explore. Aups is super close and the market there is not to be missed! We went to the Lac de Sainte Croix and Moustier Sainte Marie, passing lavender fields on our way. Our favourite village was Tourtour. It's up in the mountains so the views are spectacular. We would go back in a heartbeat. Looking forward to the next opportunity to stay here again.
