A trip to remember

5 of 5
If you are looking for the perfect modern property then this is not for you --- but if you are hoping to stay somewhere with real character and a restful holiday in period surroundings then don't hesitate. We spent a week over Christmas 2016 in the house and I am sure you can imagine the nervousness involved in decanting four generations of a family, at such an important time for all, to an unknown location. We needn't have worried. The owners have preserved a wealth of period features giving our youngest members a feeling of experiencing history while, at the same time, they have not stinted on making sure e.g. that the heating works well and there is an abundance of hot water. One of the problems when staying with a large group is that it is difficult to find enough place settings, saucepans, cooking utensils etc. - nothing could be further from the truth at la Cerisaie. We cooked five ducks with all the trimmings for Christmas dinner and our four children with their husbands/wives got great enjoyment from cooking meals in a well-equipped kitchen. The large hypermarkets and other shops are very close by, although you would never realise that was the case when within the property's grounds . Dieppe is a lovely town and we were able to visit two local beaches very easily. We are all very grateful for having been given the opportunity to enjoy a memorable Noel.

Beautiful place to stay, but not completely adapted for 8 people

4 of 5
We were two families of four (four adults, four children) staying at the Le Tilleul property...a beautifully restored authentic barn type property, with lovely interior design touches, the property was very clean and beautiful. However, the description states that the property has three bedrooms, which is strictly true, but upstairs you have to walk through a bedroom with one double bed and two singles (a complete family of four room), to get to a tiny bedroom with two more single beds. In the description, this room is said to be a further attic room which had led us to believe it would be above the mezzanine floor on another level, which led to some surprise on arrival. Not a massive problem, but something to be aware of if you have younger children who still need to be close to parents, as the other double room is downstairs on the ground floor. We had to have one set of adults, their own children and the two children from the second family up there in those rooms, the other set of parents sleeping downstairs, away from their children. We also stayed during a very cold period (new year) and needed to heat the property - great log burner and the wood is free, but property is quite lightly insulated, so be prepared to pay some electricity for heating if staying in winter months. Overall a nice place to stay, the owners have thought of everything in terms of facilities and amenities, and the little extras that the owner has thought of in the garden area are a nice addition (topiary, labelled plants, collected items from brocantes, etc).
