HomeAway offers holiday villas in Biguglia as well as apartments that will take your breath away. The choices of accommodation will leave you amazed and have you thinking you’ve stepped into a movie star lifestyle. Fully furnished, with all the basics included, you can’t go wrong with a holiday villa in Biguglia. Bring your family along for the time of their lives.

Things to do in Biguglia

A holiday in Biguglia can be as relaxed or as busy as you want it to be. If you have access to a car while here on the island of Corsica you will have the opportunity to explore the many pretty towns and markets that open during the summer months. With beach on every side of Corsica, a holiday villa in Biguglia will allow you to get your fill of sunshine whilst still visiting some interesting local sights.

-Explore Biguglia on foot to discover the history of this lovely medieval town which back in the early 1400s was the capital of Corsica. Outside the town there are plenty of sites of archaeological interest if you’re attracted by historical outings. If you’re in town in August, Les Medievales de Biguglia is a two day festival celebrating the area’s heritage and is a fabulous time for all with fares, jousting and feasting.

-Casa Buonaparte is the ancestral home of Napoleon and is around 100km away. Located in the capital of Ajaccio, the old home is now used as a museum and allows visitors. If you’ve come all the way from your holiday home in Biguglia to Ajaccio to see Napoleon’s house then why not take a relaxing walk along the waterfront area of the Corsican capital? This can be a busy area during the hottest months of summer and there are restaurants, cafes and shopping outlets for you to seek some air-conditioned shelter from the hot sun. Enjoy the marina and visit a museum or two.

-Scandola Nature Reserve is an area well worth a visit if you enjoy including some nature on your holiday. A tour will be necessary, leaving from either Porto or Calvi as the best sights can only be accessed by boat. The nature reserve covers an area of over 1900 hectares and consists of caves, wild terrain and grottoes. A trip to the western side of Corsica would not be complete without a visit to the Scandola Nature Reserve. Put on your walking shoes and get out there to explore!

-The Gorges de Spelunca are one of Corsica’s great hikes. They are near the river Porto. The gorges are up to 1km deep in various parts and boast fabulous orange granite rock walls. The trail is now partly paved and links the areas of Ota and Evisa. Mules once used this track to ferry supplies from Porto to the villages in the highlands.

-The home of Christopher Columbus is another fascinating visit and a good day trip from holiday accommodation in Biguglia. Christopher Columbus is claimed to have been born in the town of Calvi situated to the north of Corsica. It turns out that Napoleon is just one famous person in history to be born on Corsica.

The weather in Biguglia

Corsica enjoys a beautifully typical Mediterranean climate. During July and August the most tourists visit and temperatures soar to around 30 degrees Celsius. If you are looking to do a lot of walking during your holiday you should aim to visit in the months of May, September and October.

Getting to Biguglia

The nearest airport to most Biguglia holiday villas is Bastia. Air France as well as other carriers fly here all year round. There are several ferry companies that operate services to the island; Corsica Ferries, Société Nationale Maritime Corse-Méditerranée and La Méridionale/CMN. When the tourist season is at its peak, there are around eight ferries each day. In the colder months this drops substantially to around one per day. Even these services are often cancelled due to inclement weather.

Perfect in every way

It would be impossible to find better, more interesting hosts than Pasqua and Santa. They renovated this lovely flat themselves, doing almost all of the work, and the result is idyllic. A wonderful melange of polished wood, Mediterranean tiles and matchless views over the breathtaking mountains of Cap Corse and its deep blue sea. To make your stay even better, a fine selection of restaurants lies within 10 minutes' walk. What more could a traveler ask?

A Little Gem

5 of 5
We were bowled over by the location of this house. Situated in a mountain village it is surrounded by the most incredible scenery. The arrival instructions were very well organised and Louisa and her family are extremely friendly and helpful. The house is as described on the website and is clean and very well appointed. Everyone in Pietralba is very friendly and welcoming. We spent a very enjoyable evening at the pizzeria in the village and and there is an excellent bakers at the entrance to the village which we walked to every morning for our bread and a coffee. With the option of two terraces you can spend your whole day observing village life! The house is perfectly situated for exploring the La Balagne region. We visited the beach at L'Ostriconi, L'ile Rousse, Calvi and Bastia during our weeks stay and after a long (and hot!) day of sightseeing we were happy to return to the peace and tranquility of this little village house. It really felt like being at home. We will certainly be going back!
