Make a holiday rental in Beost, France your home away from home

Beost self-catering holiday accommodation is located in and around a small village in the Pyrenees-Atlantiques department of Aquitaine, in the far southwest corner of the country. The village sits in the Ossau Valley, within a spectacular mountain landscape that offers a wide variety of outdoor activities and choices for excursions.

Things to do in Beost, France

At Beost self-catering holiday gites you’ll be in the Pyrenees National Park, which offers all kinds of outdoor recreation. The most popular here are walking and cycling, and immediately outside the village you’ll be able to climb the tall wooded hills that surround the Ossau Valley. There are also a number of impressive lakes around Beost – Bartouste, Ayous, Bious-Artigues, and those found at Arremoulit. One of the best locations for a walk would be the lakeshore of Bious-Artigues, which is enclosed by wooded mountainside and especially picturesque. A appealing feature of walking trails in the area around Beost holiday accommodation is the number of small settlements, especially along the valleys, ensuring that you’ll never be far from civilisation, however low-key. In the summer months a host of other adventure-packed activities can be enjoyed around Beost – rafting and canyoning are always popular at the Gave d’Ossau. A Canyoning trip with a professional guide would allow you to explore previosuly inaccessible nooks and crannies in these rocky valleys, enabling you to climb waterfalls and gorges in a safe, family friendly environment. Meanwhile you could also take the opportunity to see a couple of the sights around the small village of Beost – there’s the Chateau de Beost, which is the site of a 12th Century Abbey. There’s also the Church of Saint-Jacques Le Majeur, which is also from the 1100s.

Places to visit on holiday in Beost, France

Around 45 minutes by car from Beost holiday accommodation is the city of Pau, which is famed for its spectacular views of the Pyrenees, which loom to the distance to the south. There’s also some impressive architecture here, including the magnificent Chateau de Pau, which served as a holiday home to Napoleon during his time in power.

Weather in Beost, France

Due to the high elevation of Beost holiday chalets temperatures tend to be cooler than locations just a few kilometres to the north – winters bring daily highs just above freezing, with consistent snow coverage on the higher ground around the village. Summers are pleasantly warm, with high temperatures in the mid-20s.

Cheap flights to Beost, France

Beost self-catering holiday accommodation is around 45 minutes to the south of Pau-Pyrenees Airport (PUF), which can be reached from the British Isles by flying with Air France from London City (LCY).

Nice warm family home

4 of 5
We were very happy with the house,it was ideal for a family holiday.near the town and good parking. We did feel that it was not very well equipped. The house advertises that it sleeps 8.however there were only 5 mugs and small selection of glasses.all different shapes and sizes.I also think they should say before booking that you have to bring sheets and towels.as this could be difficult for guests arriving by plane. Also. I feel also if you advertise a wood burning stove.they should provide some wood as a starter pack.we have always had wood supplied at other chalets we stayed at. The contact was not good. I tried to find out about arrival and keys by email.with no answer. Eventually got through by phone. These are points that I think are fair to mention.however it is a very comfortable house and I would recommend it to other people for family holiday

Delightful cottage in lovely village and setting at Lourdios Ichere (Not Issor but close)

4 of 5
We were made immediately welcome by owner Michel who gave us a quick tour of everything and some background to the cottage. It is very well set out and everything clean and bright. It is situated adjacent to a babbling stream, with trout and birds to watch. Our only initial problem was that as Australian visitors we do not carry bed linen with us, but Michel quickly organised that. We also found the bright street lights strange, but good shutters fix that issue at night and it is a heavenly peaceful place. The village is gorgeous, very pretty and friendly, tucked into a fold of the mountains, and extremely interesting. If you get a chance, go visit the Ecomusee up the road 800 metres from the cottage. There you can hear how this village came into being in a very different way from many other older established settlements, and also about the rise of women shepherds in the region. There are many good walks to be found, and good shopping a bit of a drive away - there are no shops in the village. The nearest big town is Oloron Ste Marie, which has a great market and some friendly cafes and eateries, along with beautiful old architecture and the river. In the opposite direction at Accus, not far away from Lourdios, you can go and shop, then watch hang gliders coming down a mountain while enjoying a good meal (along with the resident cat). The black currant tart was to die for. All up a great place to stay, I would recommend it to anyone.

Great stay in a great village

5 of 5
I had a pleasant stay here in September 2016! Also very clear communication with the owner (first through mail, on the day of arrival by phone). I arrived at around 10pm and was welcomed by the friendly parents of the owner. I spent 14 days in the appartment (which is more a house really, only the groundfloor is a small grocery store, the entrance of the property is on the first floor - access by stairs on the outside of the house). I wanted to explore the Pyrenees by bicycle and on running shoes. The location is situated near the square of Laruns, with everything a walk away (2 bakeries, 2 butchers, a supermarket, restaurant, grocery store, tabac store,...). The property was clean, the kitchen was well equipped. I didn't miss anything but I have to admit I'm not the fanciest cook. The internet connection was fast! No frustrations there. It's also a cosy livingroom, comfortable seats. Exactly as what the listing shows. The bathroom was ok, a large bath. No problems filling it with hot water! Since I stayed there alone it wasn't a problem putting my bike in the entrance, but it's probably not ideal if there are more bicycles to store during the night - although it would be possible to put them next to the fireplace in the living room. Laruns itself is ideally located if you want to do outdoor activities. I enjoyed every day of it!
