We thoroughly enjoyed our week here. The hosts were helpful but discreet and gave us plenty of suggestions for walks, cycles and restaurants. Having the bike hire business at the front door was great and it was fun to try out an electric bike and dog trailer and even better when we were driven to the top of the gorge to cycle. We were really grateful to Tessa for arranging our vet appointment with a lovely vet. The site was comfy and had everything we needed, including iPod dock and Lavazza coffee machine, and the garden, complete with dogs, fish and cats, was beautiful with a good view of the Tarn where we swam and canoed, and looked for beavers. I strongly recommend the Petit Gite to anyone wanting to get away from it all yet still have an active holiday.
The house is absolutely ideal, equipped with everything you need. It has great views over the river. The owners are charming, they even invited us into their own home for a soirée.
The area is excellent for a great number of activities and the town is full of historic interest. We particularly recommend taking the boat trip from Malène with the Bateliers and a visit to Castelbouc.
Before our holiday, there was a long period of anxious exchanges with the owners, who do not speak any English. We were surprised to find that we were required to sign a rental contract and return it by post, together with a certificate of compulsory insurance we had to take out for the gîte, covering our stay – all this in complex French legal language. No help was available from HomeAway.
As we were leaving, there was an embarrassing discussion, with our limited French, about a sum of 90 euros, which we thought was a returnable deposit against breakages and the like. We left feeling confused and somewhat disappointed – an uncomfortable ending to what had been a great holiday.
